Default ATI Balancer Thickness

I purchased a new ATI balancer for my new engine. It is quite a bit thicker than the old ATI balancer on the old engine. Same diameter and dimension from the back face to the timing cover but a thicker ring. Anyone run into this before?

Yeah. Mine is also. Had to file a touch off the timing tab if I remember correctly.

Same for me. File the timing tab off a bit. I think I removed a bit on corner of timing cover also. Mine is a 3 bolt pattern for pulley. And yes it is thicker which moves pulley out further. There is a link on here somewhere.

The difference between the two is about 0.270". I have the clearance to the timing tab. Its tight but will be enough. It does move the pulley out further.

Wonder why they made them thicker than my older one? Old one is 1.084 thick and the new one is 1.354 thick.

Can you see a part # on both of them?

Seems they had a different model that was narrower, possibly for street use?
(not sure if it was SFI rated?)

No part number on them just the regular patent numbers. Both are SFI labelled with all the other labels/stuff on the front face. The old one would be about 10 to 15 years old. Both have the three bolt pulley arrangement.

I will have to weigh each one and plan to give ATI a call.

I was confused as well.
