Would like to try a different Torq. Converter
Who is a good Pontiac TC seller these days?
This is for a street/stripe 461, w/700R4 and lock-up, Crower 60310+1.65 rockers, 3:42 gears. After many yrs with the B&M 2400 it’s time to invest in something that will show me what I’ve been missing (I think). |

Call Cliff Ruggles and he’ll set you up with a TSP converter

Another vouch for the Tri-Shield Performance converter. Either through Cliff or direct from TSP.
I had a B&M holeshot 2400 and replaced it with the TSP 9”. It drove about 90% as positively as that too tight B&M but once you stick the throttle the thing comes to life. I don’t have the car back yet, but through another TSP converter in the 4l80 I had built. Billet face, triple Kevlar discs for WOT lock up etc.

I did a TSP in my own 4L80E, with the same triple disc lock up clutch JLMounce mentioned. Put it behind my 454 Chevelle.
That converter rocks. Drives friendly, flashes to about 35-3600-ish or so if you get after it, and locks up like a stocker when cruising. When I restored John's Firebird and built the 455 for it, it also got a TSP for the 400 turbo. Really nice driving converter that also flashes up around 3500. They have worked well for me with 500-600hp combinations. |

I also have a TSP. It had an unknown 11" converter in it before. It slips a tiny baby amount more from a stop, but nothing dramatic. Its still has very good street manners.

Cliff sells the TSP converter. I've heard PTC makes a good unit, but can't comment because I haven't run one.

I cannot recommend. I favor the 10" ATI "Street Master?" Or "tree master?" I dunno but 10 years ago they were $650. Scary to figure what ATI charges now.
So, for all the recos: please show the approx-price? |

ATI Streetmaster for 700R4 w/lockup $735 and Treemaster w/o lockup approx. $1100.

My TSP lock up triple disc for the 4l80e was in line with the price Jason paid. Not sure about the others but Cliff asked for the adapter plate thickness and the torque converter was built with the mounting pads and center pilot padded out so the distance to flexplate was spot on.

Worth mentioning, my stock Gasoline 4L80 Converter is fantastic. Wouldn't replace it with an optimized aftermarket converter. Fear of little to no gains.

Thank you for the link.
Unfortunately it seems like there might issues with TSP website, when I click on "Transmissions" the page does not load up, it does for the other selections ie. "Engines" (trying to avoid long distance calling charges). Last edited by Formula jg; 12-26-2022 at 03:49 PM. |
