Can my 15x7 rally ll wheels be original?
I have 4 rally ll wheels with what I believe is a production code of 12/12/1972 HM & a 5th one with 12/16/1972 HM. My car is a 1973 Pont GTO & it came off the production line in mid march of '73. When my father & I bought the car from the second owner back in the 90s, it was sitting on 4 rally lls. I liked the look of the honeycombs, so we sourced a set of them at the pick & pulls around the county. Dad recently told me that while he was digging around junkyards, he found another close production date rally ll and picked it up for a spare, incase I decided to go back to the correct option wheels that came on the car. I am assuming the 12/16/72 HM is the one that he found.
Is it possible that the wheels would have been produced in 1972 and installed on the assembly line in March of 1973? From what I have gathered the HM is designated for Firebirds, but I'm not sure about the GTO. If anyone has information that could help me in determining If the wheels are correct for the car, It would be appreciated, as I only plan to keep and restore the wheels if they are period correct. If not, I would rather they go to someone else restoring a firebird. Thanks again for any info

The HM wheel is listed as factory on the '73-'77 Le Mans ( which is what you have with a GTO option, this started in '72 I believe) So I don't see any GTO "only" listings
but it sure was installed on those cars. All codes for these are HF HM HW...... IRRC they were made in Canada and were shipped by the container load and there was no "FiFo" ( first in first out) that really applied, so its totally possible those dates you have are correct. They got shipped all over for the A bodies built in various places. The Honeys "MUST" be balanced with a LUG-Centric Balance adapter for a spin balancer or the center section where the cap fits gets really ruined, its only rubber there. The Honeys where/are codes HP KP (NP)

Thank you for the reply Formulabruce and the additional info on the proper mountingn for HC wheels.. That makes sense about the mass production and no FIFO. Now Ill have to look closer at the honeys I have and see if they were damaged when mounted and balanced years ago. t's been years since they were on the car and I only plan to use them if i ever show the car.
