Default The right Stuff VS Pirate Jack Disc conversion

I have a 67 GTO with 4 wheel power drum brakes. Looking at converting to front disc. I am looking at kits from The Right Stuff and Pirate Jack. Has anyone had experience good or bad with either of these kits?

Thanks
David

The Right stuff from either OPGI or RPUI # AFXDC01C $ 801.95 and Pirate Jacks # DBK6472-GM-209 $ 661.25 Big price difference, not sure why.
Both have standard spindles. There are some kits I see that use my original drum spindle. That would be easier. What is your opinion.
I am using 15' Rally II rims.

Single 9" booster will be problematic with low vacuum engines (< 12" Hg).

I have used Right Stuff products, so I will offer this advise. If you use that brand, buy directly from them. Once you start discovering problems with the parts, you won’t have to deal with a vendor for help. You can go straight to the source.

I have Pirate Jacks kit 6472
They were the only ones that had this in stock
The last car I restored I used a kit from inline tube.
I am pretty sure it’s the exact same kit
Good think you are using 15” wheels
I don’t see any kits out there fitting 14” wheels.
Years ago I bought a from either CCP or SSBC
I can’t remember what company but I don’t see that kit on either site anymore. It was a nice kit cause I fit 14”
Wheels
Below is the Pirate Jack kit I installed last month

My company made a kit for years that fit 14" drum wheels no issue, and with no offset issues.

As @400 4spd. alluded to, I would not consider my dealings with Right Stuff to be optimal.

The best option is to buy from Ames and support this forum.

I usually buy from Ames almost always.
I’m afraid to add up all my receipts from Ames on my last restoration😬
Always have good service with Ames but unfortunately at the time the brake conversion kit I needed was back ordered with no date.

I've used two Right Stuff kits, one on a '65 LeMans and one on a '70 LeMans and didn't have any issues with either. I used the kits without a master or booster and used a Wilwood master for manual front disc.

Wise decision...main complaints were with the booster/MC. Ended up going hydroboost.

I used a 1974-80 GMC 1/2 ton manual master - works superb and far cheaper than what Wilwood sells.

Note you will need to mod the pushrod.

Can you elaborate on the pushrod modifications needed?

Cut off end and thread for clevis yoke. Some pedals are side mount so you may need a coupler nut to make it work.

Is this because the stock 66/67 pushrod/clevis is too long? Shorten and rethread?

Maybe - they are never the length you need.

If a 9' booster will not work, what other options do I have. I do not want to go to hydroboost. My factory 11' works fine, just looking for more valve cover clearance.

Has anyone used the stock drum spindles when converting to disc. I have seen several kits. Can I just bolt on rotors with new backing plates & caliper mounts?
