3M 05895 no longer available?
I need to repair some small cracks in my endura bumper on a 1970 FB. Apparently 3M does not make the 05895A &B kit that I have used in the past. Can someone recommend another product I can use? Maybe an SEM product? Thanks.

3M stopped Making 05895!
I called 3M and they no longer make the 05895A & B in tubes. Replaced with #05887 but you need a special applicator gun that costs more than the product! Anyone know of a "Work-A Round" for the applicator? Thx.

last repair to Endura I did I used Lord Fusor
seems to be doing OK so far But I normally use 3M products so would have to research why I made that choice

The excellent 3m product that I used was changed to Bondo brand/packaging but it's the same stuff as far as I can tell. Not sure what the product number is now. It's been good for well over a decade.

I used the flexible SEMWELD 39708 product on my 72 endure nose, comes in 2 tubes that you mix up like JB weld, excellent product that applies nice & sands smooth & easy.
I was going to buy the 3m stuff but the auto paint supply store I went to only had the kind that needed the expensive gun, the rep suggested the SEM and said its just as good and can be used on other types of rubber/plastic too. I used it to repair a small tear on a 78 nose too along with the mesh tape for added strength. Its lasted for 15+ years on the 78 and 7+ on the 72 with no signs of any problems. It was cheaper than the 3m too. |

The Bondo version is slightly different than the 3M stuff and is harder to sand. If you didn't have both to compare, you wouldn't know any better, but the 3M stuff is better to work with IMO.
There is a cheaper twin cartridge gun for larger 300 mL twin cartridges, and if you buy one you can wrap the 3M tubes in a few layers of cardboard from your favorite canned beer case, it will sit in the gun OK and you can use those smaller cartridges. I wasn't willing to spend $200 for the proper autobody twin tube gun, but $50 for the larger gun was OK for 2-3 uses. Something like this one, intended for 300mL cartridges. The pushing pads won't be centered in the tubes but it will still work. I used the same gun to dispense 3M NVH foam as well as Norton epoxy seam sealer from the smaller tubes so I feel like it was a good choice. Also, some parts supply houses (my local Napa is one), bought the proper gun and would lend it to customers who bought the smaller tubes from them. I am a slow worker (see sig ) so I wanted my own for when I needed it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/28530579201...Bk9SR_iHwKubYw As long as the repair product you buy is a flexible epoxy repair kit, it should be fine. I used 3M (both in tubes and cartridges), Bondo, and a Canadian product from Dominion Sure Seal. The 3M sanded the best, the Bondo was the worst, and the Sure Seal was noticeably softer than the others once cured and did not feather as well.

Here’s what I’d use works well stays flexible. Use it in marine applications all the time. You will be amazed at this product. If you want a harder less flexible for something use 5200

How well does the 4200 sand? I've used 5200 at work but I've never had to sand it and it never gave me the impression that it was sandable.

3M 05887
Purchased the 3M 05887 and borrowed applicator gun from a friend. Product worked well and I am pleased with results. Hope to apply paint this week. Thanks again everyone. Dave

just a warning to all that all of the mentioned products have a shelf life.
I wouldnt buy if its over a few months old. Also resist the temptation to use up what you bought 2 yrs ago.

Is the 3M 05895 the product that was recommended by the often used "Endura Repair" sticky topic? The gray colored stuff that sands so well?

Also used it again a few years ago on some honeycomb wheels I restored. Still looks & works like it always has and I dont see any problems using it again in the near future. Most of these 2 part products have a very long shelf life in my experience, definitely longer than a few months, never used the 3m or lord fusor so cant comment on them... but normal bondo fillers and JB weld etc should last for many years if stored right. |
