A 6al box already has a built in rev limiter that can be used with MSD RPM chips.

Yes I'm aware of that but I have a 6a box that I got cheap and I was wondering if I could use a rev limitor with it somehow???

I guess I should have been a little clearer with the question, what I want to know is can a msd 6a cd ignition be piggybacked to a rev limitor,I dont care what brand it is I just need to have one.........

I'm pretty certain their "soft touch" rev limiter can be wired to the 6A, but how I am unsure. Why not check with their tech line? A web search will produce a website with a phone number.

To the best of my knowledge, an MSD 6a will accept no rev limiter, MSD or otherwise. It doesn't have any external spot to wire one in, even by splicing wires.

You could call MSD tech support to check. In the MSD line, they sell two types of soft touch rev controls.

One is PN 8728, and it works with factory ignitions, both points and HEI. It would also work with the MSD 5 box since that box is also designed for factory set-ups.

The second is PN 8738 which works with the 6T, 6TN, and 6-HVC boxes.

The last MSD catalog I had (2004) said in big letters that the 6a will NOT accept any form of rev limiter, regardless of brand.

Unless the numbers have changed (unlikely!), you can reach MSD at 915-855-7123 or via e-mail to msdtech@msdignition.com

Soft touch will not work with the 6A box. What you need to do is send the 6A box back to MSD & pay $35.00 & they will upgrade the box to a 6T & then you can add a soft touch box to your ign.

Jacobs-Dual Revsafe #384806 has 4 wires red, green, red& white, Black. Red is your 12 volts Green goes to the white msd wire ,The red& white is for your trans-brake if you don't have one just tape it up. Black is ground. The instruction come with the unit I have also used this with a 7a box works great and you don't need chips just set to your rpm . Good luck

I have also used a Jacobs product with a rev limiter and the 6A box. It also worked for me (Jacobs Nitrous Mastermind) I did have to get wiring instructions through their tech line though.
