Stuck in the 13's and wonder if just a cam and/or cam advance will put me in the 12's with the current setup. Currently have a 64 Tempest wagon with 468,#96 unported, 66 Tri-Power, 1.75" headers, 3.23 10 bolt w/ 26.5 ET's. Cam is an ancient Crane Hi-Intensity 284, 228/236 @.050, .490/.510 lift, 114 LSA, 1.5 Magnum rockers. I want to stay with a flat tappet cam. Can I get there with hydraulic or should I go to a solid? Estimating the weight around 3800 lbs. Thanks

Whose converter you using and what stall speed? Th400 I presume.

Yes TH400 trans, with a Big Chief 2400-2800? stall/flash. Ignition is Pertronix unit in a stock dist. w/36 deg. in by 2200rpm.

how deep in the 13's are you already? it might be easier to break into the 12's with another converter or more gear depending on how close you are now.

More gear + juice + having your heads ported by someone who knows... will result in a big time improvement.

I am trying to do this the hard way and stay with the 3.23 gears. It may be just a tuning/traction issue because I am at 13.0 @103. I have seen alot of guys in the 12's at 103mph. Budget keeps me from getting the heads done or day dreaming for the KRE's.

if you're at 13.0xx, just get a little bit more out of the first 60 ft. and you're there.

what are your 60 ft. times now? again, more converter or maybe even a taller tire might be the way to go instead of a cam change.

My 60ft. times are not consistent, ranging from 1.92, 1.95 to a best of 1.85. I was guessing that the shorter tire would help out with the tall gears. I can borrow a buddies 28.5's and see what I get. It's good to hear that I am probably close without the hassle of a cam change.

Mark, Give me a call, or better yet, email your phone # as I am off this week and we can get together. I'll galdly help you. Oh, just got a call saying they decided no more Wentzville thanks to insurance regs and investment cost to meet them. http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
