there's an article in the latest dragster about larson and co. bringing the car back with a blown/injected IA2 combo. the body will be VFN carbon fiber and Zombie Racing is doing the chassis.

"the body will be VFN carbon fiber and Zombie Racing is doing the chassis."

Are they really bringing the car back or are they building a new car with the boss bird paint sceme? http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Sounds cool anyhow....

New car. Car will look like it did "in the day" but will be built to modern safety, speed, and handling specifications, according to the article.

what ron said...i can't imagine it would be safe to run the old car (if it's even in one piece) in the 6's at over 200 mph or cost effective to rebuild the original chassis to modern specs.

Eric Larson and Mike Garblik are excited to announce that they have reached an agreement with drag racing legend Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick to re-create his ’71 Trans Am nitro funny car, the “Boss Bird”. The re-creation will strive to keep an authentic look, while incorporating modern chassis and drivetrain components. The powerplant will be a traditional Pontiac engine, complete with blower and nitromethane.

Mike and Eric, noted for their successful re-creation of Arnie’s “Grocery Getter” station wagon, will continue their association with The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (Team ASE). VFN Fiberglass will build the carbon fiber exact replica body. The team will continue to run a full schedule of events with the “Grocery Getter” while the “Boss Bird” is under construction.

Straight from the horses mouth, Rob Bruce:

"...not a single piece of pipe has been welded to another yet, and VFN hasn't gotten the mold yet either..."

Very doubtful that you'll see the car anywhere, anytime in 2005, but 2006 might happen.

I look forward to it myself...if they can get it into the mid-low 6's with Pontiac power on nitromethane, that will really be something to see. They picked a good one to work on the project when they picked Rob.

As for the original body (or at least one of the original Boss Bird bodies), I believe Rob still has one hanging in the rafters of his garage.
