New NHRA rules. Go to NHRA.com for more information.

One rule change for the street/strip racer. You are not required to have a roll bar untill you are quicker than 11.49 seconds. Big change!!

Ron; I see you got your National Dragster before me. A few changes, especially the moving to IHRA std. ET of 11.49 for rollbar. Wording on Advance ET SFI protective clothing. Also new chassis specs. for the very fast 8.49 and quicker. Other ET rule changes include crank center heights for trucks. I see nothing drastic in rule changes for this yr. http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif YET http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif www.nhra.com/2004/news/november/110102.html (http://www.nhra.com/2004/news/november/110102.html)

Ron, I suspect they did this as a result of backlash they may have gotten from bracket racers. They were proposing new rules aimed at newer production "stock appearing" vehicles that were capable of sub-12 second ET's (like Cobra's or certain Corvette's, LS6's, etc.). Looks like the bracket racers won this argument.

Are you kidding me Tiki. I'm usually one of the last to get my ND. I read it on the NHRA web site this morning. I wish they would have gone with IHRA on the chassis certs and medicals for the faster cars and changed from 9.99 to 9.49 like IHRA does. But hey, this is a great change for the sportsman racer.

Isn't it amazing that a fast NHRA Super Stocker such as the SS/AA hemi cars can run 8.60's and only require a SFI jacket....no pants required.

Rules are changed by the tracks submitting incedent reports to NHRA. They look over these incedents and form their opinion for changes in rules. There just havn't been the reports in stk. a s/stk. to require any changes from yrs past. http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Whew http://pysales.com/images/sweat.gif

Just in time for me, I was getting ready to put in a roll bar. I can get by without it for another season, unless my new engine runs better than expected. One less project to finish prior to 1 Jan 2005...

I don't know why but it is what it is. There are also other safety rules that bracket racers must comply with but the Stock and Super Stock guys don't have to.

Ditto. I still plan to get but don't feel a panic for one now. I was palnning to get ready for roll bar instalation next week ! Must admit I still think it's a good safety perc.

My car is not fast yet....13.82 best. BUT....it will be fast someday, and WILL be faster next year. I'm having my 10 point cage done this winter to avoid thinking about it later.......also for peace of mind, and it certainly won't hurt with rigidity and traction. It is cheap ins. on your safety!

I just sold my blown Formula, and the new owner told me today that he would be able to race it without a rollbar unless he was running under 11.49

I of course told him "WRONG", because they always threatened to kick me out for 11.7's - Now I see I need to call him and let him know I'm the idiot. Good change though, going to 11.49 and faster!
