After 3 years of trouble free use my Pertronix ignitor died at Rock Falls Raceway the 24 of October. Made 2 time trial passes and when they called for 1st round I went to start the car and no spark. Had to borrow a truck and trailor to pick up the car the following weekend. Would like to thank Darby, Torment for the use of his coil to test it, Mike Chell and Bill Myer for the offers to use there extra points distributors. Put an hei in it and fired right up. Still had a good time.

Thanks,
Eric

my pertronix hasnt failed me yet
its still setting on the shelf where its been for 5 yrs, works ok I just never used that dist much it always made me nervous.
my blue streak points have been reliable for the last 5 yrs as well except they are gainfully employed sparking my 428
lots of folks happy with thier pertronix but but if Im going to trust electronics Ill make it an HEI

glad to hear it happened where there were helpful folks around, better than the side of the freeway

Sure seemed like the problem was in the distributor, power in - nothing out. I won my first round on a red light only to have the trans go just about completely away - 7800rpm in 2nd gear http://pysales.com/images/sweat.gif - resulting in putting her on the trailer anyway. At least it was my choice to put her on the trailer this time http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Cya next year.

All this talk about failing pertronix units are getting me spooked!! I think I'm going to start carrying my points with me in the trunk!! Just to be on the safe side.

I must have the distributor a tooth or 2 off because all I could get for initial timing was 10 degress, vacuum advance is hitting the intake. Took it out yesturday for drive and it feels good. Did a compresison test when I got home
1) 150 2) 160
3) 170 4) 165
5) 160 6) 170
7) 150 8) 145
Thanks, See you guys next year.

I've had 2 ingnitors go bad. The 1st was in my car when I got it, and the 2nd was just past the 30 month warrenty period. Oh well, got points now and the car runs great.
