This didn't do so well in general, so Ithought this might be more appropiate place to post it:

Ok so maybe the topic's silly but....
The 2 most popular proggies are DeskTop Dyno and Engine Analyzer me thinks.
So why not see how close each is to your actual dyno'd combination. (I must be bored). I have both Desktop Dyno and Engine Analyzer, I will post results.

If you have had a dyno done of your combo and would like to compare
I will need:

Engine size
What Cylinder Heads U are using, flow numbers help a great deal, valve sizes, if possible intake port volume cc's
Compression ratio of your combo
What intake you are using
What size carb you are using
What exhaust you are using and what size headers and pipes
What camshaft...lift and duration (intake and exhaust)...best if you have EXACT valve opening events IVO IVC EVO EVC
....either at @50 or seat to seat is fine

Type of Camshaft...solid, Hydraulic, roller or flat...installed straight up or advanced/retarded

any other special parts...secret windage trays, alum rods, roller bearings...etc.

RAIV Don't leave home without it.

My 486ci motor was nearly DEAD ON in Desktop Dyno 2k vs the Stuska Engine Dyno the shop that built the engine ran it on.

On the engine Dyno, the motor made 690hp @ 6500rpm. Desktop Dyno shows it at 687hp @ 6500rpm.

You can download my Desktop Dyno file at

http://www.offline.org/~burch/486.dyn

There aren't any secrets in this motor. Just lots of cubes + lots (relatively) of airflow.

I have found the Desktop Dyno to be very accurate. I have used on several of my friends cars and been right on the money. I even took the results on my buddies 71 LemanSport and reduced it 17%, for the sixspeed trans and predicted he would dyno 384 at the wheels. He dynoed 381. This program works.

69Firebird roundport/roller455
70Catalina 455
72Skylark Buick 455
89 Iroc 305 stock 192RWHP/263RWTQ
I cant leave anything alone.

I have engine analyzer pro, and have input a very accurate engine model based on the parts for my new motor. Im not going to say what the numbers are, but I dont believe them. When I get the motor on a dyno I will post both.

http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gifWHERE DO YOU GET THOSE PROGRAMS? I HAVE VIRTUAL ENGINE 2000 & CAN'T GET ANY GOOD #S OUT OF IT BECAUSE IT LISTS EVERY PART FOR OTHER MAKES BUT VERY LITTLE FOR PONTIAC. SO WHEN I TRY ADDING GOOD PARTS THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE. SO ENGINE COMBOS PROVEN TO 600+ HP COME OUT TO 311 HP. OR MAYBE I'M JUST AN IDIOT http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif &

TP- here is one:

http://www.performencetrends.com

You can buy direct or thru a discount parts source, like JEGS and Summit.

After bugging Will Baker to death in using his http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, I finally got the Engine Analyzer v3
Compared to my three known dyno combinations I think it's a bit generous, maybe 20hp or so.

They'd better be... there's some serious money invested in them.

The shop (Victory Engines) started with the semi-machined heads, opened the intake ports as wide as we could (breaking into the pushrod holes), then welded the holes back up and machined new pushrod holes.

Going from memory, the intake rockers are .250" offset, with a .100" offset lifter. Here's a picture of the weld work and rocker arms:

http://www.offline.org/~burch/firebird/Victory%20Engines%20486cid%20Pontiac/DSC00003.JPG

I think there are shops doing this now (wide ports?) but at the time ('96-97) I don't think anyone was already doing it.

In addition to being at 25", those flow numbers are also on a fairly stingy flowbench. In "stock" form (radiused valve job, NO port work) the heads only flowed about 240-245cfm on the same flow bench (also at 25"). I made a posting on the poncho mailing list years ago when we actually flowed the original heads which would have the exact numbers.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if people are getting a lot more out of the heads now.
