I was wondering if anyone on our Pontiac Community has had or knows of any dealings with a GTO dealer in New Jersery known as Black Ties Classics?,Just curious if they are a reputible Dealer.I have seen them advertising many GTO's & was wondering if anyone might have any info on this place?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks to all..

I have never dealt with them personnaly. However I have a friend who is desperatly looking for a 65 Iris Mist Convert. About a year ago, They had one listed, I passed along the info, thinking, they had to be somesort of GTO experts in rehab, selling Goats. As it turned out he was selling this 65 as a broker for someone else. We thought, how can he stand behind the car, if he isn't the one selling it? So he passed on the car. A true Iris mist car is kinda rare and he isn't really mechanically inclined, so he wanted a perfect 65. Now, I have seen some goat's that he is selling for big bucks too, I hope they are nice car's for the money they are asking.
Kinda cool to have a goat dealer around though.

I was in the market for 2 months before I bought my car. I looked at several dealers before I bought from a individual. All I have to say is a used car dealer is a used car dealer. Smoke and mirrors or bondo and paint. Just make sure you inspect it with a fine tooth comb and never buy off a picture. You get a better deal from a individual who can tell you history of a car more than a dealer. You get no advantage buying from a dealer cause you buy as is so they are not bound by anything.

Seems that Black Tie Classics is just like Golden Classic down in South Jersey.
Very questionable cars at very above normal prices.

I was on a trip visiting some friends in the area, stopped by to check them out, was not at all impressed by the way my friend and i were treated or the prices and quality of there vehicles.

For everyone's info, Golden Classics in New Jersey is out of business. Nick DeMartino (owner)was being sued for misrepersenting a few Corvettes and Camaros as numbers matching and they weren't(after the sale). The family is still in business as Future Classics, still in New Jersey. They are always at the Englishtown Swap meet trying to pass off high price, questionable cars. I know a few people who have dealt with them, be very careful and do your homework!

After visiting their place of business a few years ago and looking at a work in progress, I wouldn't have touched one of their cars and rude doesn't even begin to explain how they treated us when we were there.

A buddy of mine was there to look at a GTO, there was also a gentleman from MI who flew in to look at a car also. He was inspecting the trunk of a GTO and was poking his finger in a normal rust area and found cardboard painted with trunk splatter paint. They both laid wheels outta there PDQ. At a local show he offered me $3500 for my 70 GTO fresh engine, paint, int. just laughed and walked away....Dave K.

I just wanted to chime in with everyone else with my own experience. Before I knew about Black Tie's questionable reputation, I brought my 68 GTO to them to install an intake manifold and rebuilt quadrajet I had gotten my hands on.

Well, to make a long story short they messed up multiple things on the install. To give an example, they rigged the pcv valve to an internal port on the carb which let oil in and so my newly rebuilt carb had to get disassembled again and cleaned up.

My advice is like everyone elses, run faaaaar away from those jokers and don't let them near your car or wallet.

I met up with them at Carlisle. They had a 66 GTO convert just like mine there. So I asked him what they were asking for it. He told me, more than what you have. I told him I won't buy a car off of him if it was a deal. What a butthole!!! Stay Away!!!

I would not purchase anything from these dealers they are buying from a private person and jacking up price cause they say i can get you finacing.Well i buy and sell alot of cars 99% gtos.If some one is buying a car from me and need to get finacing i give them a week dont sell out from under them unlike these dealers.Plus you can get a better deal from a private sale due to they are not in a business with overhead to worry about.They classic dealers i think are a joke.But people looking for a car sometimes dont care about being a dealer cause they want it.I just say watch out.

I tell this as a story, not as an accusation, as it is second hand. In the Summer of 1999, I sold a '70 GTO convertible to a gentleman who had recently purchased a '67 convertible from BTC. When he got the '67 on a lift, he was able to determine that the frame was full of bondo covered with sheets of aluminum and then hidden with undercoating. This, naturally created a very dangerous situation. BTC was made aware of the situation and DID refund the buyer's money and took the '67 back. The buyer then bought my '70 instead. Can't say one way or the other whether BTC knew of the frame problem when they sold the '67, but they probably should have. I guess it says something positive that they agreed to take the car back and refund the purchase price.

I would say BTC knew about the frame. I went back into their shop, where they were working on a '69 convertible. The body and interior were just done, but when I looked under it, their were rust holes in the frame big enough to fit three fingers. If this convertible was not on jacks, I think it would have broke in half.

Out back there were about 5 other rusty "field" cars waiting for the quicky treatment.

Looking at the cars in their lot, I could easily see recent paint over rust, even overspray on the tires. Real junk.

The specific car I went to look at had clearly been wacked in the back. I also showed them a foot long bondo/paint crack in the quarter and the salesman said "wow, we just painted that a week ago, we will have to repaint that." It had a bunch of other rust spots too.

I had driven my '70 GTO convertible there, and the guy tried to buy it, after he claimed it had been hit in the back, which was not true. He pointed to a couple of flakes of pealing original trunk paint near the latch when he said this.


I stopped by over a year later and saw the same type of poor quality cars for sale.

the Iris Mist 65 gto was a Philly area Gto resto shop's gto that couldn't sell on ebay after2 tries ! so they asked Black Tie classics to try to sell it.. also if you look at their site it is the same cars for the most part over and over ...they cannot move them..I wonder why ? they sell cars for others...watch !

I have been to black ties. It is run by a rather pecular man who has a lot of old gto parts cars mostly outside and rusting. I got a pair of trunk lid torsion bars that I could not find anywhere else. You need your own tools and to be able to know exactly what you want. The owner has little knowlege and no tools to lend. He was planning to move when I was there about a year. Good luck.
