please help/olds 455 in a 65 gto

hi can anyone please tell me what kind of motor mounts and what car they would go to for putting in a 1976 oldsmobile 455 into a 1965 lemans? the car has a 326 motor in it now ,will those mounts off the block bolt on 455 and work ? any info will help please e-mail me @ [email protected] merry x-mas and thanks

chris, i have a 70 lemans w/ a 2001 zz4 chevy motor in it.
the previous owner had the wrong frame mounts and motor mounts in it.
the motor was sitting all wrong.
i got a set of 70 chevelle frame mounts off ebay for $10.00. they bolted right in.
then i got new, correct sbc mounts from the local parts store and all is good, now.
i would expect you could do similar for your car.
65 cutlass frame mounts and motor mounts for your 455.

Just about any mount that will fit your steelies should work with some work, like put them on the motor, sit it dowm in the frame, get it squared up, and mark the holes needed to be drilled, "tadah". I done that once to a grand prix, worked out well for me. Hope this helps. Loren

Your Pontiac frame pads and motor mounts will not work with the Olds engine.

Do not use frame pads and motor mounts for Olds models prior to 1969. The earlier motor mounts were not interlocked, and rubber separation will allow the engine to torque-jump high enough to inflict damage to the hood and, potentially, other engine components.

You must simply make certain your frame pads and motor mounts are correctly paired.
From 1969 to 1972, the big block Olds motor mounts and frame pads were different to the small block components, but that changed in 1973 when Olds went to common styles for both frame pads and motor mounts for all Olds engines.

So, you must use either '69-'72 455 frame pads and motor mounts or '73-on frame pads and motor mounts.

I suggest the later style, simply because '69-'72 455 frame pads are extremely hard to find. I found The Parts Place to be the only aftermarket supplier at $80 (!) per pair.

Incidentally, be prepared for potential conflicts due to the overall size of the 455. It's two inches wider and an inch taller than a small-block.

I'm sorry, but I must admit I do not know the dimensional comparison between a big-block Olds engine and a Pontiac engine.

i think i can get the original frame mounts from car ,motor came out of but it is a fullsize 1976 olds car and if i did that and bought new motor mounts for that car and engine ,then i would be in?

I believe that would be your simplest and best course of action.

As the previous poster indicated, you may have to drill your frame to mount the Olds frame pads.

You might save a lot of heartache if you set that BBO in your engine bay for a trial fit before you actually set anything in stone. An Olds 455 is quite wide; check some of the posts illustrating the interference problems encountered by guys dropping those in Firebirds.

BTW, if that '76 455 has "J" heads, do yourself a favor and find a set of "C" heads - much better flow and compression.

I have a question about this too actually. I have a 67 Lemans with a mid-70's Olds 455 (bought it like this), but it has the stock exhaust manifolds still and want some headers. Not sure what kind will fit since space is tight. I thought something that would fit a '67 Cutlass would work for me too if they're the same body style. Any ideas? Thanks.

lemanz: Hooker 3101 headers should fit in there easily. I used to have them on my 67 Cutlass, and there was plenty of clearance everywhere.

What I need is an Oldsmobile body to put my built 455 Olds engine in. As far using the old style mounts, they fit, and they will work without drilling holes for a half-assed newer style mount set up that will only have half the mount on the frame
