WTF.
So my Thanksgiving is going good until...My visiting family tells me that the all the new bennies are pushing for the close of the track and that Raceway park has been sold http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I checked the site and they don't talk about a sale but do discuss the pressure from all the JOs who bought houses close to the track http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

http://www.etownraceway.com/

I haven't been to the track in years...
Hey NJ what's the story ?
Man I feel sick http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Seems to me, that if a track is out in the woods long before any houses are around, then the people who deside to live near a track should take that into consideration before moving there.
I am sick of seeing old tracks that had to build way out the way to keep piece and everyone has to close in on them and make them shut down!

This has been going on for years - I heard its only a matter of time. Writing's been on the wall. Problem is the noice factor law is older then the track - just wasn't enforced. Last time I was at E-town, I couldn't believe you can now see houses - and they are not inexpensive ones at that. The home owners will eventually win. That part of Jersey is so diverse. Amazing how you will see extremely poor and extremely rich as neighbors.

Atco seems like this will not be a problem for many years as the pine forests surround the track.

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT (UPDATE) .....11/24/04 -2:40pm

New Jersey Withdraws Bill to Restrict Racetrack Operations

Legislation (A.B. 3425) that sought to unreasonably restrict the hours of operation of motor vehicle racetracks in New Jersey has been withdrawn from consideration by the State Legislature. The bill would have prohibited the operation of racetracks located within a one-mile radius of residential housing before 11:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, tracks could only have operated between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. These time restrictions would have made operating any race facility nearly impossible. The measure represented an attempt by a small group of New Jersey residents to silence racing without regard to racing enthusiasts and would have imposed a statewide, one-size-fits-all approach to racetrack control which ignored the significant economic and recreational benefits these facilities provide.

We will let you know if there is an attempt to bring this bill back for consideration in 2005.

Exactly. We lost green valley raceway in N. Richland Hills about 20 years ago due to encroaching development, and rumor has it that the track in Kennedale may soon undergo a similar fate for the same reason.

Home owners/Property tax payers > racetrack in the eyes of the city fathers, and it's kind of hard to argue with that logic when you think that most people consider a race track to be a noisy nusiance slightly up the scale from a rendering plant.

My Brother in Law said that the local papers said a deal to sell the land was confirmed.
Any NJ locals know about that?
The airport behind englishtown was supposably sold as well as was the little airport in Wall Township, which will effect the little dirt track known as Wall Stadium.

Man I thought it was bad when they shut down almost all the salvage yards in Morganville when I was still around, this hurt me as I used to make many a yard trip on weekends as well as the annual ET swapmeet, All good things must come to end but not like this...
