Has anyone had any success mixing methanol with gasoline? I know u can mix 10% or so with unleaded gasoline and raise octane a few points. Anyone mixed a larger % of methanol with gasoline with good results?

http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif One the resons you don't see more than 10% mix is it eats up steel in the fuel system. If you run more than 10% you need to upgrade to SS fuel lines among other things. Maybe other PY members can comment on other problems.

Unless your fuel system is clean as an operating room I wouldn't do it. Methanol is a very good solvent and will loosen stuff that you never knew was in your tank. Then it will procede to clog filters and eat any rubber pieces in the fuel system. There are better octane boosters such as tolulene that won't cause you any long term problems.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't methanol a lower specific gravity? The more you use, the leaner you get?
