When you run a solid lifters, do you have to have oil restricters installed? Or is it fine without them? What kind of problems if any when not using restricters?

Get lifters with built in restrictors. I think the part # is AT-2213R speed pro/sealed power. Keeps more oil in pan instead of under valve covers.

I have a running 455. I don't know if I have those lifters that have a built in restricters. If I don't is it going to cause any problems? If so I'll have to change the lifters.

Uh, oh, here we go again. http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This has been the subject of debates in the past. With Crower lifters, they specifically tell you not to run restrictors. With other solid lifters...I don't know. I was planning to run a Crower solid for my next cam anyway so I didn't check the restrictor requirements for Comp lifters.

If you don't run restrictors in a setup that needs them, you can end up with a bunch of oil upstairs under the valve covers instead of in the pan. The bearings typically don't like this arrangement and call it quits.

Great, that's not good. How do I tell if I have the lifters with the built in restricters? Since I'm not sure which brand I have.
This motor is in my boat & will spend 90% of it's life over 3000RPMs.

Ron, I have restricted lifters in the 474 and from my experience, the oil hole in the pushrod cup is smaller than a standard lifter.
Also, I believe another way to restrict the oil is in special pushrods with smaller orifice.

I ve heard people mention using pipecleaners in the pushrods to contol flow but Ive never actually seen them used.

In the mid 70's my uncle used to put pipecleaners in the pushrods without failure.
