first question is.....
....does a 287/326 crank have the same thrust bearing width as a 326-400?

#2 does anyone make spacers to run the old cranks in the later blocks?

big bore, short stroke pontiac!

The 326 crank is a 389/400 crank. Just balanced for the smaller lighter 326 pistons. Same stroke and size.

Earlier cranks in later blocks as in?

that first 326 was supose to be 316 my bad, I'm, talking OLD 55 56 steel cranks with 3.25 strokes and 2.50" mains instead of 3" or even the 57 and 58 cranks with 2.623 Main's and 3.5625 strokes

guess thats what happens when you post late at the weeeeee hours of 10 at night http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

they make these dor the chebby guys to run the old small journal 283 cranks and make 302's in the later 4 bolt 350 blocks. just wanted to know if the thrist was the same, or if you have problems with the thrust being to narrow like from 400 to 455.

hope this is clear I just woke up.

Maybe Steve B. can join in here as he has a lot
of experience with the older cranks.

The 287 and the 316 cranks would have been before
the 347/370 crank days so he may not know though.

Most thrust thicknesses are around 3/8 inch on
the sides so having spacers custom made for the large bearing block should not be a big deal as it would be a large diameter change and a step could be machined into the spacer.

You might also have to trim the inside of the counterweights of the small crank to clear the
large main width. Go for it.

Or buy a forging from me that will fit without the spacers in the 400 type block. You will have
as much money in the spacers and 287/316 crank
as my forging costs.

what will you forgings turn down to? I read 3.50 on one post will they go 3.25?

Tom I know you know why I want a short stoke, big bore motor http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I want to play with one of them hairdyers and see no need for the long stroke and me being cheap figure the older would do great at the level of boost i'm planing.

tom If you still have my e-mailm send me a price on the forged crank. even if I can't afford it my friend wanted to know about one. also he wanted to know about any tunnel port heads, intakes for sale. 303's 400's whatever.
