I was planning on 6.71 or 8.71 big block chevy in my 80ta..But buddy has built several big blocks and now has small block.He said the big blocks weren't any faster then the small blocks ,cost way more and weren't that reliable...not sure exactly what died in the them and these were supposed to be 7000US motors so not cheap.I would of course use 4 bolt main,steel crank,decent rods,forged pistons,clevite bearins,arp bolts for rods,etc good gaskets.So are big blocks reliable.what rpm can I turn on reliably with a blower /nos type hyrdraulic cam and good springs.
What et and mph can I expect from a 6.71 or 8.71

I can obviousy built a small block up much cheaper but big blocks are just way cool.Had a supercharged rat once in a store demo car but it weighed 8000 pounds and didn't drive it all that much..so don't really know what it could do on a track.My car will see track maybe two or three times a year max..mostly it will be street driven.Can a built blown big block hit 6000rpm consistenly and reliably..what about 6500..I know it should take much for a small block to hit 6000 to 6500.
