Quadrajet leak-down

My 78 GP I believe suffers from leak-down, where the fuel in the bowl leaks out over a day or so, dripping down into the intake.
When attempting to start, I have to pump the pedal 8 or 10 times to get new gas in there.
I bought a remanufactured carb, I see some goop applied to two spots on the bottom side. Is that where they possibly epoxyed the places where the leakdown occurs?

That could be, but Wow a Q-Jet that leaks down. usually a Holley Problem.

Welcome to the Forums.

Chronic Q-Jet problem, shut the hot engine off and the contents of the tiny float chamber evaporate causing starter burndown the next time you start the motor. There are lots of band-aid fixes that are largely ineffective, I fixed my signature GP's Q-Jet permanently by installing an inline $30 electric pusher pump near the tank wired to a dash mounted momentary pushbutton switch.

While I am fastening my seatbelt, I set the choke and "prime" the carb by holding the button down. The momentary switch eliminates the need for a oil pressure switch circuit. Instant starts and no vapor lock! http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
