For a strip only application. I do have power brakes, but am considering Rhodes lifters. I am looking for your advice on a hydraulic cam, as a roller is out of my budget right now....plan to go to one eventually! I don't care about idle quality.
455 cubes
Rear gear: 3.55 12 bolt
Heads: 6X-8 mildly ported. (No flow specs) 89 cc chambers
Intake will be an RPM or Torker II.

Compression just a hair under 10:1

Car is 3500# with me in it.

Thanks all!!

Darin,
Forget the hydraulic, go w/ a solid cam!! Especially if it is strip only. A solid will make more power.

The 407A3LUN is an Ultradyne/Lunati cam that I almost went w/. 255/263 @ .050 0.540/0.556 lift. I bought a silmilar custom ground Comp Cam cheap or I would have bought this one.

455? What did you pick up?

Darin, are your heads together? What kind of spring do you have and how much lift can you go with those heads. If they are already done, that may narrow your choices. If he goes solid doesn't he have to put restrictors in his block?

Bud...I'm gonna have a new powerplant for next year....no more 350! http://forums.performanceyears.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif I picked up a 455 (based on a 400 block) shortblock and will use heads I have for now....E-mail me and I'll give you particulars.

Crower sells restricted lifters.

Darin,
Those #'s aren't matching Crane's website listing for those.

Seat Pressure @ Installed Height 90# @ 1.578
Open Pressure and Height 280# @ 1.100
Coil Bind .935
Average Spring Rate 397 #/IN

I have a set of 99838 that are closer to those numbers.

Go with the Ultradyne solid 255/263@.050 on a 108. You won't regret it.

Brian....you are correct. I must have copied the wrong info. In any case, they will likely be replaced.

The 99838 are a great spring for a flat tappet cam. Comparable to the Comp 995's but you can get more lift before coil bind.

Outer Diameter Outer 1465
Outer Diameter Inner 1.091
Inner Diameter Inner .807
Damper NO
Seat Pressure @ Installed Height 110# @ 1.688
Open Pressure and Height 320# @ 1.208
Coil Bind .950
Average Spring Rate 438 #/IN
