what size ring gear does a 10 bolt from an 81 TA have. is it the same sixe as a 79 TA 10 bolt. I thought it was 8.5, but people have told me 8.2. anyone ever put an 8.2 behind a 469 that was well built. how did the rear hold up. thanks for any info.

81 TA 10 bolt is an 8.5 inch rear. It is the same rear as the 79. Make sure that is what you have and that it wasn't swapped out. On the front facing part of the passenger side axle shaft tube will be some stamped letter that you can cross ref to see what you have. The stampings are probably rusty and weren't very deeply embossed,so you will need lots of light and some sand paper to get rid of the surface rust. Sometimes a crayon and a piece of paper works to "lift" stampings like those up.
I would not run an 8.2 inch rear behind a 455 that's worked on.
