GTO Hood Insualtion

I have installed a tri-power on my 67 GTO. I also have a hood insulation pad htat I have cut out around the tri-power to provide clearance between the air filters and the hood and to allow air from the scoop into the carbs. It doesn't look quite right with the hood up and the rough cut edge of the insulation exposed. I'd like to keep the insulation in place to protect the hood paint from heat. Does anyone know if the original 64-66 tri-powers without RAM air had hood insulation and if they did, how were the cut edges around the tri-power "treated"?

Original NON Ram Air Tripower cars DID have the 4bbl hood insulation pad. It appears that all originals rubbed on the air cleaner. The new molded hood pads therefore exhibit the same problem. You could take an exacto knife and carefully remove a little bit of the pad or use an old lid while driving the car.
