I'm new to these forums, having picked up a '66 Tempest with a '73 455 recently. I'm loving the car...
I'd like to convert to HEI, and wondering how the hood tach, which appears to be a regular Pontiac unit, can be made to work with the HEI distributor.
I know MSD has two tach/fuel adapters, #8910 ("factory ignition module" type) and #8920 ("magnetic pickup" type) which describe mating voltage-triggered tachs to MSD units, and their tech line response to my question was't too confidence-inspiring:
"Dear Sir,
The MSD Tach Adapter P/N 8910 is designed to work with a factory points or amplifier trigger. The P/N 8920 will work if triggering the ignition unit through the Magnetic pickup.
Thanks,
MSD Tech"
Anyway, will one of these or another adapter work to drive the apparently factory tach (working with my points/cond distributor) with HEI? Has anyone else tried to do this?
Thanks,
Tom
