Hey will a 1965 Frame (hdtp) work for a 66 GTO (conv) I know the 66 conv. frames were boxed, but that can be done in the field pretty easily. I am wondering about the dimensions and boltons...

Yes. I have a 1965,a 1966,and a 1967 GTO frame side by side in the back of my shop, and they are identical. Same year chevelle is different though- the rear frame rails are longer on the GTO. Not sure on covertible stuff though- all of mine are hardtop frames. I think you are correct about just boxing a hardtop frame. I think that's the only difference.

A steady hand with a decent sized plasma cutter (or a torch) & you can remove the inserts from the damaged convert frame. Be prepared for a ton of grinding. I have done this on center pieces from smacked '68-72 convert frames before, removing them & getting them ready to go in the hardtop frame is no walk in the park even with the best tools.
