Hey I heard a nasty rumor that if I get my '69 firebird into the mid 12 second range without a cage, that I will flex and stress crack my body..anyone had this problem? Should my next purchase be a cage?

Twisted, Are you running subframe connectors? I believe that should be enough to get you into the 11's if done right. Any faster and you'll need a bar anyway.

Twisted, my 77 runs into the 12's and Im running sub frame connectors, the only thing I can say that its causing to happen is that the fenders and doors are kinda getting out of alignment, but it can all be corrected with a little time relining the doors, same thing happens if you leave one side of the car jacked up long enough :P

Subframe connectors is a definate. Hard lauches you'll twist like a pretzel..

Oh yeah another thing faster time slips! Instead of twisting your going forward. Of course if everything else is up to par..

well, subframe connecters are bit easier, and pretty cheap. So that will be my first thing next summer..that's when I plan to run low 12's. And then maybe i'll add a 6 or 8 point cage before I go any further. Thank you for the info!

I would put frame connectors on they are one of the best bag for the buck

I ran my 68 bird for 20 years with no frame connectors and no roll bar in the high 11 range with no problem.

I've heard stories of windsheilds cracking because of body flex. For all they cost, the stability, and the better launch. I think they're well worth it. If you plan on going faster in the future and not have them. Most likely you will do the same thing as a guy at track I used to race at with a Duster. He would launch and bring up the one drivers side front wheel up while the passenger's side wheel stayed on the ground.
