I'm getting ready [almost] to start the engine in my lemans I have installed a 02 model 6.0 4l80e has any one here done this how does it run? Since I'm building the car ground up all at one time,in my spare time it's going slow. I hope to crank this car this month and drive it next. It is getting warmer and Ican't wait to drop the top and the hammer on this car. any stories?

There's a fellow in the Houston Area that if I recollect right, put exactly the same year and type drivetrain in his 69 Firebird. 02 truck block 6.o with the 4l80e.

I don't know if he posts here. But The car seems to run and drive very well. It just barely fit under the hood due to the tall truck intake.

I could try to help you get in contact with him if you like. He is a member of the H.A.L.F. club. Houston area legendary Firebirds.

I'm doing the same thing. I hope to pick my engine and tranny in a month. I'm putting mine into a 67 Tempest.
Do you have the motor already?
Do you have the motor mounts if so anything special about setting it up?
Have you moved the cross member back?
Which oil pan do you have?
Which configuration did you get? The guy I'm buying mine from is configuring it to produce 400hp...

joe, I do have the engine in the car and I am just about ready to crank it. Today I spent some time mounting the pcm and tracing the wires down that I will use from the lemans engine harness. I made the mounts myself, and did not have to cut the pan or crossmemberlike some[kit] mounts have you do.Also the a/c compressor fit without a problem. Feel free to ask any questions you might have. jim

It will be good to be able to ask you some questions. The guy I'm getting the engine from says that he has engine mounts available for A-bodies. It's good to hear that you didn't have to monkey with the cross-member.
Did you get a wiring kit with yours or are you using one of the Painless ones?
Any pictures of what it looks like?

Joe, I sent my harness to a man in Anderson Indiana [SPEARTECH FUEL INJECTION]. John reworked my factory harness to eliminate a bunch of functions that I did'nt need, [emissions] the engine will run without things like second set o2, evap, air, egr,purge,etc.. John can also custom build you a harness, but I felt that I could use the money somewhere else in the project.With the factory rework, the pcm will remian in its factory position and on the C series truck it is in the left front under the batteryand since my lemans had the battery on the left Ithought I could make it look more natural.I fabbedup a mount to mount the pcm behind the battery and it looks good. John also can reprogram your pcm to make it more friendly to your car.I am in no way connected to this company with the exception of being a happy customer, he did what he said when he said for the price he said.www.speartech.com also check this site ls1tech.com. jim

I went to finalize my motor and the guy asked me about the oil pan. Is it possible for you to measure the length of the backpart of the pan for me? Did you use the stock Camaro/Firebird pan?

Hi, Joe I used the oil pan on the 6.0.I don't know the measurements, but I will get them and post them for you.The f-body sump is not as deep but it is also longer that might cause fitment problems.I have one truck left in my shop to build this week it should be done and I will get back to work on my lemans and I will get it back up in the air to install my flomaster exhaust and I'll be happy to check for you. jim

Did you have any issues with the a/c pump clearing the crossmember?

Yeah I wanted to be posted on updates too. I'm running an OHC6 in front of a sport built 200-4R now.

But, I won't go V8 without fuel injection.

Sorry to say no new happenings here I have been to busy rebuiling wrecks to work on the lemans.I just got another load in on tue. so it may be a few more weeks before I can get back on it. The last time I got to work on it got me real close to firing it up but when starting from scratch[body,frame suspension,drivetrain]it take a long time.thaks for asking Joe, I'll let you know when something happens.
