I am wondering what the pros and cons of
a "quiet" gera drive would be..I have always
run chains and am looking for some input
Thanks, Bill

Two reasons I don't like gear drives (take them for what they're worth).

A.) They're noisy. I don't care if you've got a "quiet" one or not, they're too noisy. If I want to hear that kind of whine, I'll install a 6-71.

B.) Transfers harmonics. To the best of my knowledge it's never been proven that this is detrimental, but the gear drive does allow some camshaft harmonics to be transferred to the crank (and vice versa). A chain helps absorb some of this, and a belt drive does it even better.

The only "pro" that comes to mind is you'll never experience cam retard due to chain stretch.

I was once told that a chain(true roller) spins with less resistance than a gear.
