I recently purchased a 1967 GTO. The engine is not a GTO engine, based on the numbers in the documentation books I have. The numbers stamped on the front of the engine block are C281337 and then under that is YR. I'm pretty sure it is a Pontiac engine just not a '67 GTO. Any help on size and year?

The two-letter block code will not, by itself, identify the engine. Your YR could be a 350, 389, 400, or 455, depending on the date of manufacture.

Use this link to access Year One's very useful guide to Pontiac engine identification.
