diag help 350ci Chevy

Friends, This rookie needs help. My 68 Tempest Convert daily driver is having the following problems and it's driving me crazy. Can you point me in the right direction please? 10971-2 era chevy 350ci engine.
- black oily deposits around the base of the plugs, more on some than others
- some white deposits on the plug gap, #1 is really bad (I've changed plugs and wires frequently)
- runs strong in the morning on the way to work, sits all day and in the afternoon it seems "bubbly", lacks power and oil pressure drops about 5-7psi.
Any tips you can give me on where to start looking or what to rip apart would be greatly appreciated. I do the light stuff myself but I have a buddy that helps with the more complicated stuff. I have some time coming up where I could do some extensive work on it.

Sounds like once warm, the valve guides are letting the oil past them into the chamber as soon as the valve opens. Sounds like it's time to be building a Pontiac to put back in this Pontiac.

typical chevy problem. do you notice blue smoke at startup? thats a good indication of the vave seals leaking. take the valve covers off and make sure the oil returns are clear. if they are plugged, oil will have a tendency to seep by those valve seals.

Thanks guys. Unforunately I can't afford a pontiac engine for a while. However I do plan on getting one in there in the future. Someone else told me that the valve guides were bad due to the milky build-up on the plugs.
