Trans crossmember

I have a trans crossmember someone traded with me for. how can I tell if it is for a convertible or a non convertible car? Or are they the same. I heard they are not.

There is a big difference in the crossmembers
for a convertable and a hardtop. The convertable is much shorter. It is set up
to bolt to a perch on a boxed convertable frame. The regular crossmember reaches into the frame on the other cars. Thus it is much longer

I don,t believe the above post is true, I have a 66 convertible the cross member has two bolts on each side of the frame with a rubber boot over each end of the member and two bolts for the trans. Why would the cross member be any different for a convertible?

All A-body Convertables have boxed frames.
(walls on 4-sides) It would be hard to put a hardtop crossmember in because,
1. The crossmember is longer because it bolts inside the frame.
2. Convertables boxed frame is Boxed and has
perches for the crossmember to mount to.
3. If you have the crossmembers side by side.
They are different!
4. Been there Done that!

That's right, the convert crossmember is different as I found out on a very cold garage floor.
