The Parts Place?

I've ordered several items from The Parts Place (TPP) (including repro Rally Gauges, wood wheel and Ram Air pan) and have been generally satisfied. I’ve also heard that they have the nicest dash veneers for the ’65-’67 cars. And I have to give them credit for reproducing some interesting parts, such as the red fender liners.
But what I am curious about are their restored original parts, such as ’64 taillight housings, reveal moldings, aluminum and stainless trim/grilles, and the like. I’m having trouble finding someone to restore these types of items, and TPP supposedly will do it on an exchange basis, which would save time and hassle. Has anyone bought any restored or used parts from TPP? I’d like to hear about your experience.

I got my reconditioned '66 grill trim and seat belts from TPP, and they look awesome....... YMMV.....

How about their HO manifolds for '64-7? I am guessing they are the same ones everyone sells, but they are only $299, whereas most are between $369 (Ames), $399 (PY), and $407 (Year One).

I don't know about the H.O. manifolds.... All the other repro stuff I got from them was good to top notch.......

I happened to be in their area this past June and stopped by to pick up a couple of parts and was treated like an old friend. However there was one individual that was as sour as could be, he was very sarcastic and degrading to his fellow co-workers. Can't imagine how it would be to talk to him on the phone. His co-workers just kind of blew him off. They have been good when I have ordered from them. Just my $.02.

I chaulked up my experience as confusing. I called and asked if they had a power steering pump in stock for my 67. They said sure, and it was $60. The local Advance auto and NAPA were both out of stock with pumps showing in the upper $40's price range. Both said it was a special order and take a while so I went with the $60 dollar pump. When it arrived, it was obviously used, and didn't look any better than my old one. I called and they said it wasn't tested or rebuilt, but they sent the best looking one they had. $60 for an untested core that's worth $15 trade in at the local parts stores wasn't my idea of the best gig in town. I ended up ordering a $44 pump from Autozone that arrived in 4 days. I know, I should of asked, but who sells untested cores at re-built prices?

The parts I've bought from them have been pretty decent. My only gripe is they buy up all the trim pieces at swap meets I've been to so they can recondition them before I get a chance to buy it. This happened on my 65 rear window stainless.

I agree with The Boss, they are rude & seem like they don't want to talk to you unless you've got cash in hand. Customer service is lacking. Some of the repro pieces I've seen at the local shows are of poor quality as well - like the '70 - '73 F-body front turn signal buckets, the Formula steering wheels that are as hard as a rock, etc.

Just got it a few days ago. Everything looks fine to me and the part is exactly what I wanted. Only thing I had to complain about was the the gauge cup was made out of plastic, but as long as they work right that's insignificant in my opinion.

I actually would like to purchase one of their complete 67 GTO sport wheels...has anybody purchased on of these?? What is the overall quality of the part? Is it show quality?

I have one of their '65 wood wheels and it is VERY nice. I'd say you'd be good in 95% of shows. I have a somewhat rough original '67 wood wheel, and I can't see too many differences in the design. The woodgrain isn't a perfect match, but you need a trained eye to tell. I'd go for it, and spend the extra $50 or so and get the made in the USA wheel. You'll be happy.

I've purchased parts from The Parts Place (TPP) on several occassions. Never had any problems. The biggest thing I bought from them was their repro complete '67 wood steering wheel. It looks great (except no rivets on the back of the spokes, but no repops have that) and installed easily.

One time one of the parts was not what I really needed, they took it back happily and with no restocking charge. They are "down to business" on the phone but have always answered my questions.

Also, their shipping charges are very reasonable. Although they do not quote shipping when you order from their website, which was scary at first.

TPP is a notch below PY and Ames in terms of selection and phone friendliness but they have some stuff PY and Ames don't have...

i wasn't too happy with the fact htat the '67 repo wood wheel didn't come with the numerous screws needed to bolt it all together - had to search at a hardware store for hours and then cut them to length

maybe they've solved that by now....

Did it really take you hours? You need to buy 3 each of 2 different screws. One kind to hold the trim ring to the wheel and another kind to hold the horn switch to the horn ring.

It would be nice if they included the screws but it only took 10 minutes at the corner Ace Hardware store to find the right screws in the right lengths. Hardest part was realizing that since the horn ring was made in China the threads were metric.

Neither standard nor metric screws would fit my TPP wood wheel, I ended up using self-tapping screws to cut new threads. And I rember having to trim a few screws to the correct length.

I also had to disassemble the bare wheel and rotate the center to get the horn contact into the correct place. These few things made it a much tougher job than it should have been, especially for $400.

I ordered rocker mouldings from them early this year. They sent me a pair that was obvoisly returned from another customer with a couple of gouges. I didnt call lthem back because they were easily buffed out, but I thought it was poor that i got them.

Also, i bought the divers side headlight bezel from them about a year ago. I dont know if they actually reproduce this part but the fit was terrible. It was like it wasnt even made for my car. It didnt even come close. I sent it back and stil had to pay the restock fee.

I just dont feel comfortable dealing with them. The local clubs around here(since theyre local to us) dont have much of a relationship wiht them either.

I also bought and returned a set of '66-'67 headlight bezels from them this past spring. Funny thing is that the driver side fit more or less OK but the passenger side was terrible. They took them back with no restocking fee and no arguing.

I've purchased parts form PY and Ames that needed significant "adjusting" to get them to fit/work/look right. I just accept it as the "nature of the beast" and part of restoring an old car that was kind of poorly made to begin with.

Although I agree that dealing with surly business owners who act like they are doing you a favor by taking your money takes some of the fun out of it.
