Romanian's latest attempt to grab account info

Just received an "official" email from ebay stating:

"To reduce the instance of fraud on our website, we are undertaking a period review of our member accounts. Please verify the following: Your contact information - name, address, and/or telephone number..."

And that I should follow the link that appears like this:
http: //signin.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn&ssPageName=h:h:sin:US

But is actually (notice the top level domain is RO = Romania):
http:/antohi.home.ro/eBayISAPI.dllSignIn&co_partnerId=2&pUserId=user=&siteid=0&=&UsingSSL=&&&site.htm.htm

I GOT THE SAME E-MAIL. ONLY THEY ADDRESSES ME BY MY FULL NAME. CONTACTED E-BAY, THEY SAID IT WAS A FAKE ,AND IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME . DAH!

i've also been getting a lot of things stating they are coming from paypal....the first time was a couple months ago saying that i paid someone, and if i wanted to dispute the payment, to click on a link.

i just saved the e-mail, and watched my paypal account....no charges were put on it, and after some time, all the info on the e-mail disappeared - as if it were a picture, and it self destructed after time. wierd stuff.

my recent nightmare, I am gunshy of nearly every e-mail with a hint of suspicion. Got another tonight saying "I'll send the money, when will package go out?' I have no ongoing auctions. Asked me to sign in to respond. Seems they never give up! Take care. Ron

Phishing has become a HUGE industry in Romania.

Ro judges are tossing-out phishing arrests in Bucharest and Dragasani/Valcea, because the criminals have left the streets and are now sitting in cyber cafes - scamming Americans.
With street crime down by 85%, they feel it's made Romania a safer place for tourism! :(

While I truly believe that the drop from 100,044 auction scams in '04 to 80,250 in '05 was due to the 500 members of my "eBay Scam Killers" group, I think the increase in ID theft to 365,000+ in 2005 was a "shift" away from auction scams due to the relative ease of stealing identities from the unwitting.

My group killed well over 30,000 auctions last year and we turned over 1700 PAGES of stolen credit cards and identities to the US Secret Service and Scotland Yard in 2005. (Approx. 35,000 identities!)
My own Secret Service contact told me he processed 150,000 cards himself in '05.

Of these stolen IDs, about 60% were Romanian, another 30% Nigerian and the rest were Russian or other.

The modalities will become increasingly deceptive as the years pass. Soon, I will not be doing ANY biz on the Web.

Whenever I receive one of these phishing emails I forward them to the fraud section of their ISP. I reckon if we all did this, then the ISPs would get so fed up with the volume of emails that they might do something about it!
