With all of the posts about bad service and jerks, I thought I'd post a good-guy story. I needed some touch-up paint for my 67 GTO. The PO had it repainted the original Mariner Turquoise, but didn't have a formula or a paint number to give me. All he knew was that the painter had used a Mazda color. So I figured I'd try a Mazda dealer body shop and hope for the best. I stopped by Roto Lincoln Mercury, Mazda in Arlington Heights and explained my situation to Butch Mortensen, the shop manager. I found out that he was a car-restorer and that all of the guys in his shop were working on a classic car project of their own.
He sent me to Jim Laloggia,of International Finish Products in Lombard, who took time out of his day to match the proper chip to a piece of my car that I brought along. He printed out the formula for me and sent me on my way. He's working on a 67-68 Dodge post coupe. I took my numbers back to Butch who had my paint mixed in under half an hour.
So, if you're a Chicago area person, and you need paint or body work done on any of your vehicles, give Butch a call. If you're a body-work guy yourself, give Jim a call. He sells to dealers and shops, not to retail customers, and still helped me out. He's a great guy and really knows his stuff. These guys speak our language and understand what you're doing.
