I don't know what it is with businesses today but the vast majority of them have no clue what customer service is about. Over the last few months I have been busy buying and then trying to ship my car as well as find parts and get estimates for certain services. I would say that out of all of the companies that I have called or e-mailed only about 25% have returned my messages.
I am in the customer service business and I know how important it is to call a potential customer back even if it is just to say sorry we can't help you.
Case in point is Just Dashes. I have gone on their web site and looked at their products. I really want my original dash redone without having a dash cap on it. I tried calling their 800 # but it's out of service or I can't call it from Canada. I then sent an e-mail to them on the 20th of June asking for information and pricing. 10 days later still nothing. So I forwarded my original request again on June 30th. Well here it is July 8th and still nothing.
Has anybody else had this problem with them? Are they out of business? Are they that busy that they don't want my money? Is it because I'm from Canada and they don't do business here?
I would at least like to know. If anybody out there knows the answers to these questions or knows of another company that does the same work as Just Dashes that actuall wants customers please let me know. Thanks
Glenn

You might consider calling information and call them on their regular non-toll free line. They are in Van Nuys, Calif area code 818.

Yes I have considered that as their local # is on their site but they supply an e-mail addy for questions and in this day and age it seems pretty silly for me to have to shell out coin for a LD call just to find out information from them. If a company can't respond to an e-mail in over 2 weeks it makes you wonder what other difficulties I would have in doing business with them.

My opinion is they pretty much suck. Its been years since I called just dashes and after one short conversation I completely lost interest. Their phone was answered by a voice that could have been a 15 yr old hired to sweep floors. No interest whatsoever in quoting prices or delivery dates or even finding someone more articulate. quote " I dont know if they work on old car stuff, maybe I dont know" Finally found a pencil to write my name so someone could write or call. ZERO! I assumed I had just called at the wrong time until I read other posts describing the same person that I had talked to!
Probably a case of being the dash restorer that most recommend so they get a "my **** dont stink" attitude. JUST NOT ENOUGH COMPETION IN THAT NICHE

I too was a little miffed at the 1-800 number not being available in my area (Western Canada) but more and more the suppliers I have dealt with don't seem to want to pay additional overhead to carry their toll free up into Canada. I emailed them and (thankfully) followed up by phone a week later to be told that they get way too much spam mail and will not respond to unsolicited email - they have to send you something first (not sure xactly how that works?).
The good news is that when I finally did find the 818 number I spoke with someone who was able to explain the process and give me a cost estimate and timeline.
There is a lot of good feedback in these forums about the quality of their work and I reasoned that perhaps the turn around time they quoted me (12 weeks) is indicative of their quality focus - a good thing worth waiting for.

I called them a few months ago on their 800 number and spoke with a person who gave me a quote just then. Haven't sent anything too them yet so don't know about the quality of work. Maybe I just got lucky that day and caught them when someone wanted to answer the phone.

Ok I can understand a company not returning e-mails due to spam issues BUT if that is the case then don't advertise your e-mail on the site and state for questions please e-mail .....

might wanna do a search on this topic. Someone a few months ago in the lobby was complaining about them keeping their dash for 9-10 months and getting it back with scratches or something.
I think I would check around a bit before i would do business with them based soley on what I've read in the past.

I've heard nothing but positive feedback on both their quality of work and customer service. I'm picking up the dash for my '65 Chrysler 300 'vert tomorrow. I saw it before they dyed it and I can say it is flawless. I'm also going to bring them my armrest pads to be redone as well. They have been very good with communication since day 1.
I've had two dashes done by them and both came back perfect. I would say don't write them off just yet. For what you're going to pay for the dash the LD phone call is nothing. I know what you're saying though about customer service, in general it's gotten terrible.

Have sent 7 dashes & 1 lwr pair of molded doorpanels to Just Dashes, all came back extremely nice. As soon as I get paid on ongoing job, will be sending another pair of dashs & a 4spd console to Just Dashes. All have to remolded & colormatched... not black.
Have also had a BUNCH of customers send their A & F body dashes to Just Dashes, & they also were happy with the results. One local can't plan ahead for the life of him. One year, late in the Spring, he threw a fit & had to have his restored dash in a hurry, & yes, he was charged extra to be put in front of the line.
Will I use Just Dashes again? You bet, & I won't complain either, as have surveyed the the work coming out of the "competition". In '89, local customer sent his '69 GTO dash to the dash place in AZ. Believe Dash Depot was the name. Within 6 months the dash was bubbling, lifting on lh side. He was b!tch'n & complain'n & I basically reminded him by trying to save a few bucks, he got what he got! BTW, AZ place went out of biz, long time ago.
Dash Specialists in Or, lol, inspected their work 3-4 years ago on three '70-77 Firebird dashpads... besides some puffiness, the grain was WAY off! Waaaay too coarse, nothing like early or late 2nd Gen dash grain. Told restorer buddy before he sent them to OR, he'd be better off sending to Just Dashes for a little more, but he also had to learn the hard way.

This has been the vibe that I have been getting from most of the posts. It would appear they are the place to go. I broke down and paid the LD to call them since their 800 # didn't work and they don't return e-mails. They quoted me $700 for a 69 GTO dash with another $80-$100 in shipping. If I was to send it to them now it would be a 12 week + turn around. If I wait until Oct it's down to 6-8 weeks. Since I am putting my car away in the winter (mid Oct - Mid Apr frozen waste land here) I will wait until then. It just pisses me off that they advertise " for questions please e-mail" but they can't be bothered to answer them. Thanks to all that responded your input is greatly appreciated. :D

Actually, THEY called ME to give me a status report on when the dash would be done. I didn't even have to call them at all. Their quote of 8-10 weeks was right on the button as well.
I was just there to pick up my dash (which looks phenominal) and I can tell you first hand, they get ALOT of calls. When I was there they had 2 guys juggling the phones. Each guy was handling 2-3 calls and the phone did not stop ringing the whole time I was there. They do the best they can.

Ok I understand being busy BUT when you advertise on your site to e-mail questions in I don't think that 17 days and counting is good customer service. According to an earlier post they do not return e-mails due the large number of spam e-mails they get. Completely understandable as well. HOWEVER if you are going to take that stand then take the invite off of your site to e-mail any questions to them.
I now believe that Just Dashes offers a great product and once you are in the door the service seems to be good. Although the turn around time is long (busy acceptable) and the price is high (niche market warranted) don't advertise a service that you are not going to support. If I went 17 days without returning a customers (or potential) e-mail they would rip me a new orifice or go somewhere else.
Bottom line deliver on the services you advertise if you can't then stop advertising it.

I did e-mail them again after 10 days. It's not a matter of how many e-mails they get.
If you advertise a service deliver on it. It's that simple. Ok you miss the e-mail the first time it happens. The second time around when I forwarded the original e-mail and stated that it had been 10 days already that should ring the alarm bells and cause a prompt response. In my business I get 40 -60 e-mails a day and I have to respond to them. Maybe I'm missing something here but what was the BIG deal in calling their local number? Does a 5 minute call from Canada to California really cost that much? I'm gonna say no. I used to call a friend that lived in Toronto and it wasn't that expensive to call. The way I see it, you waited for an e-mail response that never came, calling the 800 number didn't work yet you stalled on the third (and probably most reliable) option which was to call their local number. Companies list a few different ways to reach them for a reason. You failed to try all options available. For the small cost of a long distance call your could have gotten your questions answered right away.

Ok lets look at this. As a company why on earth would you force a potential customer to pay money ANY amount to enquire or obtain a quote for your services? I did eventually call them but only after I read the positive feed back from this post. When you shop around for a service or product and the companies you contact do not respond to you it makes you question if that company is a reliable business to deal with.
I fully understand that companies list several different methods of contacting them so that a potential customer has different options. If you read the previous posts you would see that the point I am making is that they are advertising a service that they have no intention of supplying. As per lhicks they told him outright that they do not return e-mails. Making potential customers pay to get information while advertising an e-mail service and purposely not responding is not good customer service
From everything I am hearing Just Dashes supplies a quality product and is worth the cost and long turn around time. My whole point is that they are advertising a service that they won't deliver on. If they only listed a 800 and a local # and that's it I would have no beef. I know that 800 #'s are expensive and even more so if you want it to work internationally. The cost of the call is not the point.

$1,200 to have the dash redone?!?!!?....That's the problem I have with Just Dashes. They know they are in a market with not much competition, so they set their prices sky high. They quoted me $600.00 to have my dash redone approx. 10 years ago, and at that time I thought it was way too much, so I took my dash to a local upholstery shop, and had it done for $100.00. The outcome was decent, but I'm sure it wasn't as nice as Just Dashes would have done. I've heard nothing but good about the quality of Just Dashes work, it's just that their prices are WAY too high. You can't justify $1200 to redo a dash!
I agree with noobs concerns about their customer service. If Just Dashes lists an 800 number, it should be in working order. If they list an email address for potential customers, they should respond to emails in a reasonable amount of time. If they are too busy to respond to emails, then don't advertise the address.

I just got my dash back from JustDashes... It was sent to them March 1, I was quoted 8-12 weeks. I received it on June 26 (This is about 15-16 weeks), with a cost of about $723.
They never called me to update me on status... .I called once when they missed their 12 week window (and they billed my credit card around week 9).
They estimated 2 weeks left (there were actually 4 weeks remaining).

I can't fault anyone giving their old car TLC either. I've dropped a healthy amount of cash into mine too. The point I was trying to make is Just Dashes pretty much has a monopoly in their niche, and their prices and customer service reflects it. I would like to see some more competition in the dash restoration business.

Perhaps it´s just a problem for those living outside the US. I´m living in Germany and I made the same experience as GTO Noob did. Not a single one of my three email-inquieries (done over a peroid of two months) got a reply. I was asking if I could send them my 68 Firebird´s dash for restoration. Sending it from Germany it´s no cheap task, you bet. Because of the time difference of 10 hours I don´t have any other chance than emailing. Apart of this it would cost me a fortune giving them a call.
In their FAQ site they write (quote): "We can ship your parts almost anywhere in the world. If you can get it to us, we will get it back to you."
It´s NOT the problem getting parts shipped to them but getting into contact with them... Sending inquieries to Firebird-related companies from Germany I often get ignored. Perhaps they think I can´t afford the s&h costs... :-)
That´s the reason why most of the time I´m going with the big partsuppliers. They know what to do for service. Unfortunately, they don´t restore dashes...
Cheers

Above is a link to a company in Washington state. I just had them do the dash on my 71 GTO and it came back looking very nice. The only issue i had was that one of the heater diffusers came back broken.
Since i didn't do a great job of packing, it may have been broken while getting there. After i called they sent a replacement in a couple of days. Not quite right, about 1/2 too long, but they were decent to work with and seemed liked they cared. Recieved email when they received dash and occasionally during the process.

I sent them an email 3 weeks ago for cost to redo a center console. Still no answer yet- no call, no email, nothing. Everyone is busy, but how long does it take to respond an email nowadays- especially from someone willing and able to fork over cash for your product?
Message for Just Dashes... Thanks for your "outstanding" customer service- it has earned you....no business. Rather than redo the orig, I'll just by a repop (PY) and have it dyed. I feel for the guy who has no other alternative....
From my experience and others that have posted on this thread you will never see a reply to your e-mail. The only way you will get a response is if you call them

FYI here is a website address for the Washington State Company
http://www.dashboardrestorations.com/contacts.htm
I know a person who sent a '70 GTO dash there. It was sent back, don't know the final outcome yet. I sent a '71 GTO dash to Dash Specialists. It was also sent back, they recovered another core and it looks much better. They were slower than what was originally indicated but did try and make things right.
