As my mini-resto comes to a close, and looking at all the money that's been dumped into it, I realize that I would be an idiot to drive this thing around town without the right insurance. Car will be driven to work, is not in original condition (added stereo, alarm, soon to add a new tranny and eventually a real engine). No racing for me, however, I'll probably end up putting quite a few miles on the beast every year. I know that most classic car insurance companies have great policies if you only show your car, but what about those of us that actually drive them???

The car is currently insured through Wawanesa, however when asked what they will insure the car for, they told me that I would have to get into an accident first and then they would let me know!?!? How stupid is that??? Aside from this, Wawanesa has been great and I couldn't recommend them more.

I have State Farm on my classics. They have no mileage limits but you need to provide them with an appraisal for value.

Be careful on policies some have "agreed value" and "stated value". One covers basically to the appraised value by an authorized appraisal. The other does cover the car initially for the appraised value then depreciates over time. Then when the accident occurs the decide what the car is actually worth at the time of the accident and you get screwed

ANPAC-American National

is great for classic cars they have agreed value so you are safe

Farmers I believe has something for classic cars but not sure what type of policy also they are on the bottom of the barrel for handling claims on cars right now so I would not recomend them for late or early model cars for insurance.

ST farm is a good company to be insured with as far as claims for repairs and using OEM parts and such jsut not sure of their type of policy.

I have had ANPAC and I believe I can drive 7500 or 10k miles a year. plus with the fully restored car my policy has always been in the 20.00-30.00 range per month for very good coverage
