Has anyone else been scammed out of money? In my case thousands. How do I go about prosecuting someone out of state? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The story goes:
I put a post on this website for a super duty block. A member N/W SD replied that he had one for sale. We agreed on a price, I had him send me a bill of sale stating what the block was, I then wired him the money. What I received was a regular 455 block. He claims it must have been swapped out during shipment, which is impossible since it was in a wooden crate. I did file a report with my local police. He has returned to not answering his phone or returning my calls.

You might want to contact the Attorney General in the state where he is. A lawyer could give you other ideas of what can be done.
In the future, I would have someone go check the parts out and secure them at time of payment .I know this is not possible sometimes.
I have had other enthusiasts and friends go check out parts and cars for me. This has worked for me. I have also checked out cars and parts for others.
Good Luck!

mail fraud...a Federal offense if the sale was facilitated with the help of the USPS? Just curious. Ron

Interstate Commerce Commission may be able to help, too.
Next time, get a digital (high resolution) pic of it before you commit.

In addition to the above, speak to a local attorney. You can go after him for breach of contract. No problem that he is out of state.

I would call his local police - I had a problem on ebay (several years ago) and did not receive what I was supposed to. I called HIS local police and they were very helpful.
I would think that the police visiting your house several times would make anyone nervous.
May or may not help - but worth a try.

Also works if any of the transaction was done via the internet.
I buy USPS money orders as they will also help to prosecute.
Contact local postal inspector and ask for a form to file for mail fraud.

Oregon has a huge G.T.O. club. That`s where Tiger Run { you probley know } is held every year. Get ahold of somebody from the club maybe they can help out.

The American Judicial System at least in Oregon is a complete joke. This peace of work knew exactly what he was doing. It's funny that he hasn't logged onto this site since. At least not under his original NW S/D. I pulled an internet back ground check on him. Well my printer ran out of paper. He served time for attempted murder. For those of you who are upstanding people I thank you, but this whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth for the hobby. Thanks to all for the advice. I will keep pursing legal avenues, but it won't be easy.

you say he has been to prison that would mean a felony and i would guess probably not his first Is there a 3 strike law in oregon. If so the local police already have his # and know exactly where he is crimanal convictions are public get his address and send the police to check out his mail (espically the child porn he is recieving) cops and cons love that . The judge will label him a bitch (habitual crimanal ) bye bye for a long time

Well I guess contacting the Attorney General did the trick. I got my money back today for the block and the cost of the shipping plus a little extra for my time and aggravation. It only took six months! Case closed.

I still have the 455. I told him if he wants it back I will re-crate it and he can call a shipper to come and get it.
