Mallory coil 29216 and 29219

[1965 Pontiac Parisienne]

HI,
i have a 1965 283 canadian Pontiac Parisienne.

Problem:

I have install a crane cams XR-i electronic ignition module and
replaced my stock GM ignition coil with the MALLORY electronic coil 29216 and use a extern ballast resistor. Runs great. Cool.

My questions:
-Does i need the ballast resistor or can the system work without the ballast resistor?
-is it better to use the Mallory coil 29219? Have seen that the 29216 is only for Chrysler???

What is a capacitive discharge ignition system?

Has my car this system or not, because that one of the differences in the Mallory coil 29216 and 29219. Which coil i should use?

Hello. The Crane cams website shows the XR-i system is used with an external resistor. On most GM cars, the resistance is actually a resistive wire in the wire harness and should still be present if the wires have not been modified.

You must keep the resistance to use the XR-i.

A capacitive discharge ignition is usually an aftermarket ignition such as a MSD-6AL. Most standard ignitions are NOT capacitor discharge, although some GM models in the 1960's had CD systems as a high-performance option. CD systems use a different coil and do not use an external resistor.

For your application, use the existing resistor wire and a replacement-style coil, not a coil for CD applications.
