Engine Gaskets

Looking for suggestions for a supplier of engine gaskets...................just typical stuff..........valve cover, timing gear cover, intake, exhaust, etc............engine is '64 Tempest straight 6 (Chevy-based)..........

Any Sealed Power dealer has Felpro. The part number is FS8006PT-4 (full set).

I was thinking, and if this is a true restoration, Victor/Reinz might be a better choice, as they look more like the originals. Quality is also very good.

No, not a true restoration although it is an original 50k mile car with all the bits and pieces intact. I'm really just looking for quality gaskets which fit correct and minimize chances of leaking. Right now I just need valve cover and pushrod cover gaskets.

Does anyone know what make Kanter sells?

Can't say about the heater hose.

The valve cover and pushrod (side) cover gaskets for the 215 are the same as the 194/230/250 Chevy. ANY parts store can help with those. Kanter has good coverage on older stuff, but we only use them when "regular channels" can't provide the parts. They're kinda high...

Have you tried NAPA?

It's still a Chevy Six cylinder made from 1962 thru 1974 then they changed the head till mid 80's or so. Don't have time to look it up, but the shortblock is still the same.

I can get the gaskets at Pep Boys but they have to order it..........dunno who the manufacturer is. I guess what you guys are saying is that the gaskets the chain auto suppliers have are OK?

Looks like our host Performance Years has the heater hoses so I will order from them.

ANY common parts store (of which Manny, Moe and Jack are NOT) will have what you're looking for. If the Pep Boys have either Felpro or Victor, cool (ask them). Otherwise, go to a real place.

P-Body...........we don't have Sealed Pro here but you think NAPA has quality gaskets?
I did buy a valve cover gasket for a '89 Topaz and I remember that it was Felpro..............

Virtually ALL "mom and pop" parts stores are Sealed Power or Felpro dealers. And yes, NAPA has first quality stuff.

I went with FelPro rubber from local mom and pop auto store (they also had cork)...............also bought Gates belt and radiator hoses from them plus new temp sensor and thermostat...........got heater hoses from PY and repro clamps from AMES.................put everything on and when I finish the carb and start it up I'll let you know if they leak..........what do you guys suggest for fuel pumps?

The best ones available today are the Carter. Again, same as the Chevy 6s, and readily available from any Federal Mogul (Sealed Power) supplier. The same store that has Felpro should have Carter.

Well..............everything is back together and running good so now I'll start thinking about the fuel pump..................I'll try the same indy parts store to see if they have Carter.................thanks for the tip

Kev@ Tin Indian Performance makes all the Pontiac gaskets ,except head gaskets which he is working on at this time. You can buy individual or sets. He also makes a good selection of white Teflon gaskets that are really good at sealing and are replaceable.
