View Full Version : Barry Grant Sucks!!!!!!!!!!

I sent my BG280 pump back to Barry Grant to be repaired after it was discussed on this board about how it was $25 to replace a seal if it was leaking. The pump was used for less than a year without an issue, removed for 2 months and then reinstalled. Upon reinstallation, it started to leak. It worked fine when removed and I thought the seals were dried up or something. I was told by MANY friends not to send it back because it would be a waste of time. I should have listened. But after being told on this board by Tech@BG that it wouldn't be like that, it was like that. I will sell this pump as soon as it gets back and NEVER use a Barry Grant part on anything I own. I will also let everyone else know how I was screwed. MagnaFuel just got another customer.

What happened when you sent it back to BG? It was working, then taken off the car, then tried again and it leaked, you sent it off to be fixed and then what? If you don't mind could you elaborate a little for those slow on the take (me). Did they charge a bunch, refuse to fix it..?? I have a used BG pump but haven't installed it yet and am curious what to look out for if work is needed later down the road. Thanks for the heads up so we don't get hit with the same problems. i have not hade a problem with them. My 280 started leaking after 7 yrs of use. I took it along with me to the nationals at Maple Grove dropped it off at their display trailer. The rep rebuilt and presssure/flow tested it right in front of me paid my $25 All is good.

I have had 2 of the 220HR pumps here that leaked and had trouble priming

Took the bottom plate off and BOTH had massive grooves/scratches in the bottom plate leading from the centre, past the O-ring to the outside.

Tun the plate over, sand flat on glass with wet and dry and reinstall with the grooves out and all is good !!!.

Idiot intalling the plates thought it was better to hide them so the pump looked pretty but didnt work worth a damb. Typical BG quality control.

Just wait till you try their non stick, sorry I mean "super glue sticks so bad that its easier to chip off the metering block and leave the gasket intact" type gaskets for their carbs

I heard NASA is thinking about using their non stick gaskets to hold the tiles on the shuttle at launch. Nothing else seems to be able to do it but I am sure their gaskets will

The bill for repair was $105 for all kinds of parts that it "needed". The pump worked fine, just had an annoying drip when I sent it back. They tell me it was trashed inside. After about a year???? And the supply line was a #10, it was gravity fed and it has a 500GPH filter before the pump. It was plumbed properly. The pump comes with anti-tamper screws so I couldn't open it before i sent it. I can't see inside the pump once take it apart. They have me by the balls and I have no choice. I preferred the old days of going and buying a rebuild kit for $15 to fit my Holley blue pump and fixing it myself. So now I will be getting a $105 repaired pump back and I will be selling it and switching to something else just to get personal satisfaction. :(

Since you seem to want to have 2 threads going regarding the same issue I will cut and paste your comment and mine form the other thread. Maybe one of the moderators can combine these two so everybody has the whole story.

I have no way of knowing what is wrong with it, but I was called Friday and told it was $105 to repair the pump? WTF!!!!! I explained how it was mentioned on this board and on this thread about "If it is just a leak it runs 25.00 to reseal them plus the shipping". I was told he would check into it and get back with me today. Well, Jeff at Barry Grant "checked into it" and called me back to say "It's more than just a leak". It apparently needed just about everything!!! This was a pump that was run for about a year and then removed and sat for 2 months before being reinstalled and then it started leaking. It worked fine when last used. How could the whole thing take a crap???? I was told it must have been installed improperly. Well, it was gravity fed, #10 line and a 500GPH rated filter before the pump. Hmmmmmmmm.

Like I said, Barry Grant will never see another dime from me. I am having this one repaired and will get it back and offer it for sale as soon as I get it back. The one on my car now will be sold as well. This is what is wrong with customer service in America. No wonder all my friends have switched to MagnaFuel. Hey Tech @BG........Thanks!! I would say thanks a million, but it would be more appropriate for you to say "Thanks $105"

Now.... lets tell the other side of the story you are leaving out. From the start you threatened Jeff with if you dont fix this for 25.00 I am going to run you guys in the ground on every forum I can...remember that? We are here to help you guys but in situations like this it sometimes has to make us think. The post is very clear that it was for the regulator as that is what we are discussing in that particular reply and I even clarified it after re-reading it and thinking it could be mis-interpreted.Goldbird even said his pump was fine and it was the regulators he was having problems with. That was months before you sent your pump in. Now here are the other FACTS you are leaving out... You purchased this pump used from one of your buddies as you stated to Jeff and the lifetime warranty only applies to the original purchaser with proof of purchase. We went ahead and extended the warranty to you as a courtesy and charged you only for the parts it needed and no labor. No it did not need everything as that runs 179.00 ,so before you go and bash us try being truthful and tell the whole story. You posted from the start you were going to switch over to something else before you ever sent the pump in and we didn't have to extend the warranty to you but we did. As I stated we are here to help you guys but lets all be reasonable about it.

My questions are..........

Was it bought used?
Was it over a year old?
Do you have the original paperwork?
Did they fix it?
Did they fix it and cut you a break and fix it parts only?

here is a quote from one of his posts in the other thread made back in March of this year and at that point he acknowledges they were already over a year old. That would put one of them over 2 1/2 years old at least with the other a year and a half or more....

"I haven't had good results from either BG280 pump I've bought. Each has lasted just over a year. I bought the second one just because I didn't want to send the first one back to get repaired. Now I have two leaking pumps. Why would I send them back and pay $75-150 for each to be repaired plus shipping and have them last a year again? Just doesn't make sense. I'll be switching to something else."

Here is an interesting quote taken from your ad on race junk for the car. As already stated the 280's are not for street or continuous use......

"This is the car that had the double blower setup on it. It has been changed back to a single 8-71 blower. This car got all the attention anyone could ever want and even has a fine sponsor in PYPES Performance Exhaust. It has made the rounds from Detroit at the Woodward Dream Cruise to Myrtle Beach at the Run to the Sun car show. Other places I have been with the car are Atco NJ, Atlantic City NJ, Maple Grove Pa, Richmond Va, Ocean City Md, Louisville Ky, Norwalk Oh, Harrington De, and all over Maryland.

This car is perfect for cruising to the local burger joint or any weekend show. It isn't a perfect ISCA turntable, mirrors on the floor trailer queen. It was built to be driven. Drive it anywhere as long as you put gas in it!! It doesn't overheat or have bad manners while driving. I have driven this car in 4th of July parades over 90 degrees outside for over an hour and never got above 190. Driven it in bumper to bumper traffic at the Cruisin Ocean City events and never had an issue with the car. "

Again, maybe I've been lucky but I've run their stuff (carbs, pumps, regulators) in Super Gas since 1991 and I haven't had any of these issues. Just put a BG400 on my 63 Tempest S/G last week. I've sent pumps back to be rebuilt with no issues. My S/Street Firebird also uses a 400. I run my systems just like they diagram and I've been pleased. Most companies wouldn't take the time to get on here and deal with the general public (it gets rough sometimes). But AGAIN, this is MY experience.

Does it matter if it's used or not....?
Fixing the leak, that is.

I think 462 was under the impression, that it only needed a new seal. An expensive repair is not what he was expecting. If it is fixed and paid for, what is the warranty then?

The warranty covers labor only to the original purchaser. It does not cover misuse/misapplication which is what we are now finding out after looking into it further. That is not the point at hand. The point is that he told us up front if we charged him anything over 25.00 he was going to run us in the ground on every forum he could . The pump had legitimate damage and needed additional parts to repair it above just being resealed. He was told prior to the repairs what it would take to get it back to original spec and the cost. We will be glad to recall the pump from UPS , credit his card and send him back the pieces if he would like at this point as we went out of the way and extended the warranty to him only to get bashed on numerous sites. The warranty covers the repair itself just as it would anywhere else.

Tech @ BG........Here is the WHOLE story.....since you want to ASSume waaaayyyy too much.

First, I never threatened from the beginning anything. I did tell Jeff @ BG on Friday that I would put a reply on the thread on PY about what did happen. That wasn''t a threat, it was just putting an ending to my story for those that read it before. I Stated that it would probably cost between $75 and $150 to repair the pump and it wasn't worth that to me. You replied to me, not anyone else, that if it was just leaking it would be $25. Here is that post:

I sent a converter back to be tightened up. Same thing.....lost the converter. 4 weeks and too many phone calls. It's just a hassle. That's why if I can do something myself, I prefer to do that.

I rebuilt Holley blue pumps all the time for myself and others. Never had an issue. For $75 I didn't expect much from those pumps but they did well for the money. When I pay $300+ for a pump, I expect more. I haven't had good results from either BG280 pump I've bought. Each has lasted just over a year. I bought the second one just because I didn't want to send the first one back to get repaired. Now I have two leaking pumps. Next, You ASSume that that pump was on MY car. You ASSume that it was driven on the street under continuous operation. You know what happens when you
A-S-S-ume.

The pump came off a friend of mines DRAG CAR that was only used at the track for less than a year. It was gravity fed. It was fed with a #10 line. It did have a 500GPH filter before the pump.

I knew better than to send it back because of issues like I'm having with you guys. You talked me into it. All I'm doing now is talking people oout of making the same mistake that i did. I'm done. Barry Grany will be out of business or sold off soon enough. Real racers don't use your stuff anymore, at least pump wise.

Trust me, chase me all over the internet. I won't stop bad mouthing you guys. All this over one pump. I hope it's worth it to you cause I already got my moneys worth. Also, I won't trust the pump once you send it back cause I figure you guys have messed with it by now and are laughing about it. So when I sell it to someone, I will tell them the whole story and say use at you own risk. Then you can deal with another dissatisfied customer when it fails on them. Customer service in this country has gone in the toilet. I am in sales and I know what customer service is all about. I keep multi-million dollar clients factories up and running. Downtime to them is in the tens of thousands of dollars per minute in some cases. I keep them satisfied. You guys should learn what customer service is all about.

And I wish you would quit the lying and get the story straight. I NEVER SAID FROM THE BEGINNING anything that was threatening!!!!!!!!!!! I talked to Jeff on Friday and he told me it was $105. I told him I had read a thread on PY that said it was $25 to fix the leak. He said he knew nothing about it and and would check with someone and get back with me on Monday. I told him that I said in the thread that I had stated that it was more likely $75-$150 to fix it and it wasn't worth that to me, I'd just buy a new pump. I told him that since it was $105 and not $25 that I would follow up on the thread and let people know what the outcome was. When he called back on Monday and told me there was nothing he could do and it was still $105, I then told him no problem. I would make sure to let as many people as I could know about what happened. So it wasn't from tjhe beginning. I didn't try to get anything for free. I was simply asking why YOU said $25 to fix a pump if it was leaking and it cost $105. How the he** can I bully a big company like BG? I can't. But I can express my frustration of how you treat customers like me. And I have.

I have a customer that installed a Six shooter and loves it. No issues.

I have run the BG pumps. No issues. I currently run on my T/A a ProMag 500 w/filter as they didn't have one that big back in the 90's when i bought that one. I even have the 4 port BG regulator on my car since 2000.

Might i have troubles in the future. Possibly. But if it's man made that's gonna happen with any product.

I have a BG400 in one of my cars.... works good. It's a year old and no problems. It's not for continual use - race only/short run time. We use it as intended and installed it per the directions. Chit happens, parts fail... not fun I know but - chit happens. $100 or so bucks to fix a pump might not be so bad. What caused the leak? bad seal?

I use Aeromotive now on all my new stuff for other reasons. My one BG has been good so I have no complaints.

Ken that is great and what I would expect from a manufacture of parts so on and so forth... Far and away most of BG products deliver what the customer expects and no one is doubting that in these BG threads ;) with some exceptions of quality control..

What is shown in these anti BG threads is lack of quality service when a customer had an issue. I dont think the impression should be that all their products are junk. In this thread and in another I am involved in its their customer support saying 1 thing and doing another .. This in fact is worse than the product being bad or having fault imho... This is a failure to fully address the customers issues....

Read close Bill's issue It being stated a price ---- then later finding a un-acceptable price for work done to him......not to mention the poor pump quality in not lasting longer and more problems after support works on it....

Most time BG support will get the topic vectored off into we said he said... You have to read close...
Thanks

Ya know what's really funny. I have more issues with Every CAT product I have purchased over the LAST 7 years and I see No complaints in the BBB on this company.

CAT Flywheels with the center holes to small on just the only 2 I orderd. That and they drilled the holes wrong so they put a slug in it and redrilled the hole thru 1/3 or the slug.

CAT Rockers with the center trunion off center and binding the lock in on the stud.

CAT crankshafts with thin counterweight requiring 4 plus pieces of mallory and $500 to balance. Also .002 to loarge a snout for slide fit balancers.

CAT Flexplates that are over .120 out of round.
CAT Flexplates that have the ring gear welded on to far forward and zing the starter gear at higher rpms.

CAT rods that were out of round. Had 10 sets from 2 different warehouses that mics .006 under!!!!! Cat rods that required the small end to be hone as it undersize for a press fit.

CAT balancers that were to big on the snout end and when you slide them on you could wouble it back and forth. Still have that one from 8 or so years ago.

Has CAT imported ANYTHING from Overseas that is worth a damn????????????????

A separate rant. ;) Let's pick on an American owned company (BG) that has a person that goes out of his way to get on the boards and try and help, he gets slammed for people that don't even have a dog in the fight. Funny how people never slammed a certain Pontiac vendor for bad products and they never come on the board or even acknowledge an issue? I know people afraid to post that got defective products ( I have the e-mails for other shops and them) because they would get slammed from other Pontiac people that............ have no dog in that fight too. But people still buy even after certain Pontiac people in the community got the sh*ft.
Amazing. I guess it depends on who it is?

Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

He had a complaint, he vented, the tech dude replied. 2 sides to every story and both seem to be different. There is no end to this story.

Wait there is. He still needs to get it back and try it out. If no issues then post accordingly (but still can bitch about what he feels is a quote issue) that the work was completed and the unit works OK.

From what I understand.....

All BG did was fix the pump at the cost of parts. But it ended up being more repairs then the owner originally thought.

This happens all the time in every repair field, in every hobby. The problem is, if BG just fixed the leak and sent it back to you for the $25 bucks, you pump may have run another ten years, or 6 months.
If it ran 10 years, nobody would ever hear about how great BG pumps are, but if it ran 6 months everyone will hear about how crappy BG pumps are.

The simple fact is, that if BG fixed the leak and shipped it back, they would be responsible for any problems that pump gives you from then on, due to the fact that they new it had damaged parts in it and did not fix it.

As a business you can not do something half assed no matter how much a customer wants you to.

I know you didn't want to spend anymore on the pump then you already have, but would you have rather they fixed the leak, and the pump grenaded on you in 6 months?

"As a business you can not do something half assed no matter how much a customer wants you to."

PERFECT, a new quote for the bulletin board in the shop, I absolutely LOVE it!

You wouldn't believe how many times I hear these words: "just put it back together for now, I'll get it done right later" .

As a business owner, if you are STUPID enough to beleive that statement, more power to ya. I can tell you from experience, that the person who tells you that will be the FIRST one to blast you with a bunch of phone calls if everything associated with that job isn't PERFECT.

As for the BG stuff, can't comment since I've never used any of it. I think it's quite worthy of them to come on the boards in efforts to keep track of problems associated with their parts, and try to keep things in perspective. Everyone turns out stuff that doesn't always work right, or last as long as it should have.

We extend our warrantee's WAY beyond what most shops do. We only charge for materials in most cases, and sometimes expenses relating to the job, like time/fuel for testing, return shipping, etc. I figure it's better to help the customer out and reap the benefits in the big scheme of things.

Folks should keep in mind that this is a hobby, and many parts that leave our shops, especially fuel system stuff, carbs, etc, are subjected to rolls of teflon tape on fittings, TONS of dirt, debris, sand, rust, etc from 30 something year old gas tanks, water, ethanol, fuel additives, air introduced into the system from uncovering pick-ups and rotten fuel lines, etc, etc, etc. It's never a surprise when I get something back, and the customer will almost always try to indicate that it only has a couple of hours of use on it, even though it's been out there for many months or even years.

Bottom line is, all of us make mistakes, just about anything and everything will give troubles or break at some point. Cripe, I just toasted my Mallory Rev Limiting HEI Module, called Mallory and they told me to go buy a new one, end of the conversation. It was well outside any warrantee period, but they could at least have some sort of rebuild or trade in program available, or a coupon for $5 off a new one!......Cliff

Cliff. back in the day I owned a parts house and sold Batteries. I would get customers wanting a 2 year battery for their caddy as.............. They were selling it next week and just need something to get it sold.

Then about 6 months later here they come bitchin because the battery isn't holding up and want it exchanged. But then when you tell them it's under powered to run all the accessories and they need a high amp one and the cost difference with the already used pricing on the old battery. And when you tell them you remember them coming in to get a battery that won't hold up and rmind them. Then your an a$$hole.

I got out of that business. To many cheap F^&*ks wanting something for nothing. Look at posts about the discount houses and issues. I experienced it. LOL.

Not to say what is right or wrong in this post and Bill is a friend. So I won't take sides. But a lot of different statements agruing over who said what.

If the pump was second hand, was over a year old and he has no paperwork and they still did the work less labor. How is BG wrong?
I asked questions as to this but haven't seen any answers posted. I'm looking at it as a business owner too.

Cliff, We also will a lot of times warranty stuff beyond the stated time as we know a lot of these guys are in the process of putting their cars together and may have parts for a year or two before they even come out of the box. We look at each case on an individual basis along with does the part have a legitimate defect. Case in point was the other day I received a carburetor back from a customer that we sold 13 years ago . This was one of the original Holleys that we had modified and this guy wrote a scathing 2 page letter to accompany it. He wasn't asking to have it fixed and went on to say how he had installed it only to find it was rich and wouldnt run on the bottom .His car had been in the works for those 13 years and was now ready to go so he borrowed a buddies carburetor and it ran right . He sent the carburetor back with a big note telling us to disassemble it and throw it on our scrap pile as he no longer wanted it. Looking at the carburetor we could tell it was like new and hadnt been ran much so I told my guys to throw it on the flow bench and lets see just what it is doing. We found it had too much fuel at idle and the pv was suspect so we pulled it down and the pv was good but the gasket under it was bad. We replaced the gasket and flow tested it again and the carb looked great so I called the guy back and explained the whole situation to him. He was very suprised at our findings and I told him we corrected it and would be sending it back so he could reinstall it. Now I am not in the habit of warrantying 13 year old parts but in this case the circumstances said it was the right thing to do. No internet threads and nobody reading about it but we did take a customer who wasn't happy with us for all those years and turn that around. Bottom line is we all have a business to run and cant give the farm away but we all will try to help whenever possible.

I got out of that business. To many cheap F^&*ks wanting something for nothing. If the pump was second hand, was over a year old and he has no paperwork and they still did the work less labor. How is BG wrong?

Hmmm, said from a respected and well liked man. It is very hard to please everybody all the time. It is crappy when things do go wrong, but alas I guess that is life.

Yes the wholesale parts business turned into a rough business. Don't get me wrong. I bend over backwards too and have a lot of god customers. I cherish them.

Not taking sides but i read in other forums on the internet this was posted on that Bill had the pump for over a year. He ran it on the street and it's a race short spurt pump only. He purchased it used. He was told that it would be $25.00 if everything else is Ok. But once apart it needed other items. But still with no paperwork was gonna get it repaired for no labor charge. Yes, I know the drill and they make some on the parts profit, but still no labor. He had the option of having it return as is and then seeing for himself the other parts needed.

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above info. Like i said. I'm looking at it for the businessman's side.

I get engines or heads in here all the time. I give then a base price if they don't need anything but a valve job and seal. Tear them apart and find lots wrong. But the customer tells me it was running fine and just needed freshened up. How can they need all that work. They were fine. If nothing wrong then why do i have it?

Case in point. I had a customer from Lake City drop a 455 off to change out the cam for a hyd roller setup. This engine was done 10 years ago and had maybe 1000 miles? Said it ran fine. The dude isn't a gear head. I tore it apart and basically in great shape. Did need bearings. So I replaced the rings bearings and gaskets with the cam change. I fired it u and almost vibrated out of my fire up stand. Bad worse vibration i ever saw. I asked him for the old balance sheet. he didn't have it, but the crank was drilled and rods ground on. So one would asume that the balance job was done correctly and the customer didn't say a word differently. I had to tear it all apart and check it. This was a basic change out the cam lifters and pushrods.

The pistons were up to 3 grams off. The rods were 5 grams difference and the crank required 4 pieces of mallory because of all the drilling they was present. The crank was .020 and i suspect that the crank went out and they just grabbed another one and stuck it in. The customer just probably thought it was the rough idel of the big 240 plus duration cam. So ya see. Ya never know till ya tear it apart what ya find. Not my fault as it was supposed to be a cam change only on a fairly low mileage engine (and it was), not a from the start build.

Sh*t happens. :(

Cliff I think that is an over reaction to my statement. I think your business, and Pontiac Dudes business are both repairs, are they not?
This would be a totally different matter. Where as BG is a production, not just repairs.
I can see someone comming in and saying, hey I want the top end on my motor rebuilt, and you tell them the bottom end looks like hell and may not last very long, well if they don't have the money, they may say, ignore it, and intend to bring it back in a couple of months when they have the money to have the bottom end done.
Not sure why they would do it, but I have seen people do exactly that.

BG not repairing the internals on the pump would be like you not cleaning the dirt out of a carb before you give it to someone saying it's ready to run.

In my opinion the way thing should have gone down...

Person tells BG: I need a leak fixed on this pump.

BG tells person $25 dolla

Person tells BG: Ok, here it is.

BG tells person: Oh sorry pump needs rebuilt, that will cost you $113

Person tells BG: A) Oh ok, rebuild it.
B) Oh, no thats more then i want to spend.

If the person is told the pump is in need of a rebuild, and the person say, oh, no, just fix the leak, and send it back...
What is the reasoning? Either they are going to run it until it breaks, which is doubtful, or they are just going to stick it in the classifieds as < BG fuel pump, just got new gaskets from the manufacturer> .
When a person buys a pump listed that way, they assume it has been gone through, and they buy it and run it, and a few months later it quits on them.

For the business owners complaining about complaints, there's an old axiom that should be taken into consideration, actual research done to prove it.

For every customer that complains, there are nine others who are not complaining to you but to other potential customers. It would have been better to send it back saying it can't be fixed because it hadn't been used per specification than to do what we all hate, replace unexpected stuff and come back with an unexpectedly high bill then expect customer satisfaction from that.

Rather than eat the $80 difference, BG decided it would lose 10 customers. Doesn't sound like good business sense to me.

The pump had legitimate damage and needed additional parts to repair it above just being resealed. He was told prior to the repairs what it would take to get it back to original spec and the cost. .

BG stated that he was given a quote for the repairs prior to them fixing anything.

Doesn't sound like good business sense to me.For any item that is sent in for repair the customer is called prior to the repair and told what it needs and how much it is going to cost. It doesnt matter if it is a fuel pump , carburetor or other item as this is standard practice. I worked as a GM service manager for awhile and this is no differently than it is done in that business or any other that gives an estimate up front. Where it differs with our products though is that at the time we advise of the cost the item has already been disassembled so there are no suprises or calls later saying "well now it als needs this or that" . In the automotive service or repair business though it is hard to do that just as in the case Dude mentioned and we saw it all the time at the dealer.

Anyone that is going to refuse to do business with BG over a illegitimate complaint such as this one, was not a customer in the first place.

BG won't lose 10 customers, over this discussion in fact anyone that has been considering buying BG items, will probablly look at this thread, and say, "wait, is that an actual BG tech guy on these forums trying to help?" wow, I like that.
Or ,"Wait a minute, so if I send something in to have a minor repair, they will actually take the time to look at the rest of the item to see if it needs other repairs? at no cost labor? wow!"

Although i can see from a pesstamistic view some people may see, "holy cow someone feels like they have been over charged for something, he look gas dropped .30 cents this week...."

I went back and re read both threads, so now I have a question for Bill.

Bill

When you found out the repair of the pump would cost $105; why did you not just say "no thanks" and have it returned to you?

I agree that it seems a bit silly not to be able to repair the pumps yourself; but then again Snap On sells the tamper proof tools, I guess the issue then would be getting the parts.

On the other hand BG Tech has a good point to that their service can flow test for maximum tuning; 99.9% of the end users can't do that.

My overall opinion is as follows; If Bill agreed to the repair after a bid was given, that would not give Bill license to slander BG.

My suggestion to BG; you would have been well advised to offer Bill a couple of brand new pumps at no charge for advertisement. While I personally think Bill is slightly in the wrong; it is my opinion that BG made the biggest mistake in not developing a sponsorship of Bills car.

Bill’s car is arguably the most recognized Pontiac in the last two years; not only is Bill’s car well known among Pontiac Enthusiast, but he crossed the line into mainstream Hot Roding with his double blower set up. To have Bill promoting BG both verbally and visibly on his car would have been invaluable.

BG lost this battle IMO.

BG lost this battle IMO.I hear what you are saying but let me give you a little insight into it from our end. As you can imagine we get 100's of sponsorship requests a week and although a lot of them are from very worthy causes there is a lot of liability issues regarding street driven vehicles with the litigious society we have now . The other issue would be that we would not want to promote the 280 and that style of pumps for the street guys.

2. BG does know about Bill's car.

I am not picking on Bill or BG; I like Bill personally and I admire Tech BG for being in here. However they both left the laundry out to dry for public consumption; so I’m throwing in my two cents, I earned the right for reading these threads….haha

Bill’s car is a SPECIAL car; it should never be considered a street car or a race car (at this point), I still say it is my opinion that Bill’s car is the 1 car that is worth of having your product associated with. Give him 280 or whatever works, that would be the way I handle it.

Have a 1090 Demon carb off a 572 bbc crate motor i loaned to a Ford guy run'n a 600+ ci ford ranger(low 8 sec car) while Qiuck Fuel was trick'n his carb.
Without changing jets he went faster then ever.
Ended up using it the rest of the season and finish 2nd in points(Pro Edelbrock series).

He finally got his carb back and returned mine.
Saw him a couple weeks ago T&T'n.
He wants to buy the carb ;)

P-Dude, the whole isue was that it was posted on this board that it was $25 to fix the pump if it was leaking. It didn't say on the specific thread i referenced that it was $25 "unless we find something else wrong". It said $25 to fix the leak. I had already mentioned it that thread that I figured it would cost $75-$150 to send it back and to me it wasn't worth that, I would buy a new pump. But a representative of their company got on the board and said, "It will cost $25 to fix the leak". So I figure what the he**, I'll send it back. Then I get a call saying the vanes are tore up, the seals are leaking and a bunch of other stuff is wrong with it. I told the person on the phone about the conversation on this board and what was said. HE checked into it and was told that "That isn't what I said" by Tech @ BG. In fact, that IS what he posted. My point was I knew better and it felt like a bait and switch to me......Tell me one thing and then get the pump and tell me something else. I knew that was gonna happen.....Was told it wouldn't and it DID. At that point, what were my options? They could send back a "broken" pump which already costed me $20 to ship to them and I would have to pay shipping back to me (probably another $20 or so) or I could say "Fix it" and feel like they had me by the balls but at least I could sell it to someone else and know it was working properly and hopefully not have issues with the person who bought it like the ones I had when I got it.

I NEVER sent the pump for a warranty claim!!! I never claimed I was the original owner of the pump. I didn't know what the policy was since it was never stated in the thread. All I read was send the pump back and we can fix the leak for $25. So I did.

This particular pump was used on a race car for LESS than 1 year. It was plumbed properly. It wasn't used continuously. It was pulled off a car, sat for two months and I installed it on my car. Upon installing it, it leaked. I NEVER even fired the car up with this pump on it!!! I removed the pump and sat it aside to rebuild later. Well, it has tamper proof screws on it so I didn't mess with it. I was reading PY and saw the thread about a BG pump and regulator and the rest is history.

I felt that the pump being LESS than 1 year old, the leak HAD to be just seals since it worked fine on the car it was on but that person switched to one bigger pump to feed their motor and nitrous instead of two seperate fuel systems. They never had an issue with the pump. It sat for two months so it was logical the seals got dry and leaked. My problem is why does a $370+ pump go bad after LESS than 1 year use on a RACE car that was plumbed properly and had a 500GPH filter before the pump? It shouldn't matter if I was the original owner or the 5th owner if it was installed and run as it was. I wasn't trying to get the pump fixed for free. I never claimed to be the original owner so BG claiming they went above and beyond is a bunch of crap since they didn't know any of this til after I told them to fix it for the $105!!! They didn't know who Bill Bolin was. They didn't know that pump came from Pontiac462 on PY. All they knew was they got a BG280 pump back for repair. They called me with the price and I pointed out what I was told by one of their representatives. They told me I can't read and what i read was about a regulator, not the pump. That wasn't the case as I have cut and pasted the thread I was talking about. Tell me where it says in that thread anything about a regulator. Tell me where it says anything about "$25 to fix the leak unless we find something else wrong." If it did, I would have never sent it back and would have borrowed a friends tamper-proof tools and removed the cover and fixed it myself.

Now, even after ALL THIS, Tech @ BG is on another website stating this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The seals that everyone has been complaining of are the same seals that we had used for over 20 years before switching to an improved seal a few months ago . Both the Magna and PE pumps were derived from the BG design and also share the same exact original design seal and have from their start and still do. I guess we are a victim of our own sucess in that with all these pumps in the field now we are seeing those that leak . With 20+ plus years of pumps with these seals and seeing they were leaking we undertook a long search to find a seal that would be an improvement and still work in the existing housing. This took over a year but we came up with the walrus seal that is more durable and offers better sealing than the seals we used previously that everyone else still does. We incorporated this upgrade into our pumps whereas most manufacturers would have forced you into buying the upgraded pump instead. This new walrus seal is also being installed into any of the pumps that come in for repairs without an increase in the price of the repair. We do keep careful records and were able to see that approx 1 1/2% of all pumps come in for service every year. Any product of any type that has a seal that comes in contact with a rotating shaft will eventually need a replacement seal which is why you will see oil on the road from rear ends, transmissions, rear mains and harmonic balancers.
Barry got into the fuel pump business because he got tired of throwing away the old Holley blues when they leaked at 90.00 each x2 for 180.00 not to mention they would not keep up with the power level of what the engines were needing. Here's the thing... if you haven't ran gravel [had one guy come up with a wire tie in his] or pulled rubber into the cell from the vent and all the pump needs is a reseal it runs 25.00 plus the return shipping. There is no "greed" involved with this but rather due diligence about product safety and making sure you guys have a safe product as well as one that works properly. 25.00 to disassemble, reseal and flow test a fuel pump is not a high price to pay and we definitely do not make any money doing that so it certainly is not about greed but rather offering customer service! We have more pumps out in the field than any other manufacturer so you are bound to hear more about us. Unfortunately we are not able to produce a product that will not wear or leak over time but neither is anybody else. Our goal is to provide a good product that can be repaired at a nominal charge when in does need service so that you don't have to throw it in the trash. Certainly if we have given poor customer service at times in the past we apologize for it as it was not our intent but that is also the reason why BG got rid of those already mentioned.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He is saying the EXACT same thing here!!!!!!! Where is their a disclaimer that it "COULD" cost more???? Where does it say anything about original purchaser only? Where does it say anything about plumbed properly? This is the EXACT misleading statement that got this whole thread started. I never ran "gravel, rubber or wire ties" through mine but look what happened!!!!

Ken, I understand your analogy of the head repair. I know things happen. I knew that before I sent the pump back. That is why I said on the ORIGINAL thread that I expected it to be $75-$150 and didn't intend on sending the pump back for repair. Tech @ BG assured me otherwise so I "FELL" for it. Everyone hates the feeling you get when you think you have been taken advantage of. My only recourse was to come back on the thread and warn others of what happened. I hope this clears it up a bit. If not, I guess everyone will have to make up their own minds. Lesson learned.

All that being said, I DO have a BG280 pump on my car. It worked for almost a year before it started to leak. It has been on my car leaking for a short while but the leak is minimal. Do you think I will send it back to BG to be repaired? Nope. I will remove it and replace it with a different brand pump. I also have a Holley blue pump on the car for the nitrous side of the fuel system. I only bought the second BG280 pump to replace the Holley blue pump so the pumps would match when people looked under the car. Soon I will have two matching pumps........they just won't be Barry Grant!

Soon I will have two matching pumps........they just won't be Barry Grant!Bill, as I posted on the other site you really dont wart to start back on this... You and Scott [our sales manager] had a conversation in which you asked us to quit posting about you which we did and now you want to try to keep putting lies out when things are not going your way on here. YOU clearly stated in the February thread on here which is in plain site to everyone to see that the pump had been on a car for over a year and now you keep telling the lie that it was under a year.... you know that point really is mute though as you were extended the courtesy of warranty. Now here are the facts that you cannot deny....

[1] The pump WAS over a year old by your own admission on this board.

[2] YOU were given an estimate up front and told us to fix it.

[3] You were also given the option to have us stop the shipment after you started complaining and have us pull the new parts and send it back to you at no charge.

[4] You didn't even start posting until after the pump was already in route to you.

[5] You told Jeff you bought the pump used for 250.00 from a buddy and we DID know that prior to the repair.

[6] The post says if ALL it needs is a reseal and you want to keep trying to twist that around. Once again you already knew if it needed more there would be additional charges from the past dealings you mentioned in the February thread. Who do you think you are fooling here?

and lastly.......the 280's are not for street use and continuous duty for which you are trying to use them. With the amount of driving you do with your car I am suprised the other one has stood up as they were not built for that. You are using the wrong pump for the application. Once again not our fault.

Now... I was man enough to quit posting when you asked us to and will do so again...the choice is yours. As you posted earlier "end of story" . Boths sides stories are on here and I think most have formed an opinion by now anyway.

Sad VERY sad!:( Our Hobby is threatened enough, it's very sad to see this kind of thing where a meeting of the minds just can't seem to find a reasonable solution to the issues brought to the table. Hope it can somehow be resolved. We all pretty much would agree it's our love for the hobby, that we do the things we do with our Cars, even if it's a business we have, obviously that business may be our livelihood, but more times than not, we had to first have a love for something before we become business owners. I feel for both parties involved, it's not easy having a business right now in the Car Enthusiast field, with the economy crashing around us, as well not an easy time for Hobbyist either. OK off my soapbox it pains me to see stories such as this withing our Family circle here. I wish all involved well, and for the continued positives this great hobby brings to our lives, hope things can be worked out.

Good luck all!

Actually I had thought this had been resolved until I read Bill's new post. Scott who is our sales manager is originally from the same area as Bill and they know some of the same people up there. Bill apparently went into a shop up there badmouthing Scott personally to a friend of Scott's as well as BG yet Scott was not even aware of or involved with Bill's pump being here. Scott recv a phone call with these details to which he called Bill personally and Bill stated that if we would quit posting about him and chasing him around the internet that he would quit posting about us as well. He was also given the opportunity at that time to have the pump shipment turned around and brought back to us where we would remove the new parts and return it to Bill in the same shape it was sent in to which Bill declined. The pump had already left prior to Bill starting all these threads so his accusations that we would sabotage his pump are totally unfounded and without any merit. The ball is back in Bill's court and we will abide by his original agreement with Scott if he will but we will not let him continue to bash us without stepping up to defend ourselves in the matter.

Parts and shipping only dependant upon what they require to get them back to spec. If all they need is a reseal, thats all we do. We only replace what is bad. Properly plumbed and in the intended application [race only] they are fairly trouble free and we see guys run them 3 ,4 , 5 years and even longer and never have an issue with them. Where we se most of the issues is where guys are running them on the street or they have sat up for awhile or the plumbing is wrong. 280's have to be fed with a 10 inlet and 400's with a 12. Both pumps have to be gravity fed and have adequate vents as well.

Adam, Adam, Adam......
1) Both pumps were "just over a year old" when I replied to the thread.....but both were already leaking BEFORE the year was up. I just hadn't sent either one back for repair. It doesn't matter cause I wasn't trying to get it repaired under warranty, I just wanted to get it repaired.

2) I was given an estimate up front...$25 from you!!! Then Was told $105 from Jeff. Then had discussions and "gave in" just because I wasn't gonna pay $20 shipping it to you and $20 for you to ship it back to me unrepaired. You had me over a barrel and I felt like it was my only option. True, I could have had you send it back unrepaired but why waste $40 and haver the same junk I had before.

3) See above for my same reply

4) Right. Why would I post BEFORE the pump was sent back? I was giving you guys the opportunity to make it right BEFORE I posted my dealings with you. You chose not to stand by your comment. I chose to let people know.

5) True. You are right. Yep. And???????? What's your point? I never tried to hide it. My comment about you guys not knowing anything about it's history was a fact. You guys quted $25 and then $105 to me BEFORE you knew I was a second owner. How would you know otherwise? I didn't say it to anyone until Jef told me the price. This doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things anyway.

6) The post DID NOT SAY "if ALL it needs is a seal kit". Here it is UNEDITED:

I rebuilt Holley blue pumps all the time for myself and others. Never had an issue. For $75 I didn't expect much from those pumps but they did well for the money. When I pay $300+ for a pump, I expect more. I haven't had good results from either BG280 pump I've bought. Each has lasted just over a year. I bought the second one just because I didn't want to send the first one back to get repaired. Now I have two leaking pumps. Why would I send them back and pay $75-150 for each to be repaired plus shipping and have them last a year again? Just doesn't make sense. I'll be switching to something else.

If it is just a leak it runs 25.00 to reseal them plus the shipping.

Adam.......This is another example you you getting the story all confused....or just twisting it to tell lies. I did talk to Scott. I do know the same people that Scott knows. I told one of our mutual friends that Scott has worked for two POS companies....Speed Unlimited and Barry Grant. I did say Barry Grant as a company sucks. I TOLD SCOTT DIRECTLY that I never said anything about Scott personally, just the company. Why would I say anything personal about Scott.....He had NOTHING to do with it. Scott believed me and we moved on. I can't help it that our mutual friend listened my my ranting and thought it was funny and called Scott to tell him that I was fired up.

I was done with all this......right up until you posted the same LIE about $25 to fix a pump again!!!!! You can choose to twist this however you want. I won't deal with Barry Grant for ANYTHING EVER AGAIN. I hope everyone else uses caution when dealing with Barry Grant. You have come on here and other forums to "straighten out issues" and that is admirable. Personally I think you are trying to put a band-aid on a hemorrage. You have seen the replies on other "racer" boards and I'm not the only one with issues. This board is more or less a mix of street/show and bracket racers. The marketshare that Barry Grant has in fuel pumps has dropped DRASTICALLY. That is why you guys cleared house. Good luck maintaining the balance of customers you have.

Have a nice day.

Bill, We are not just going to patch it up and send it back with just a seal when you thought it was just a leak. We had no reason to put parts in it that it didn't need and I think the customer mentality of well just put a seal in it and it will be fine has already been covered in this thread . You are the one wanting to twist words but I think everyone else that has read both the threads on here fully understand if it needs more it costs more....simple principle Bill.
Bill, the first call from Scott's friend was on speaker and both Scott and myself heard what you said about him and I was there when Scott called you as well and heard him tell you several times what he was told you said and you kept denying it. Scott's friend has no dog in this fight so I see no reason for him to lie about it.
Now in one of your other posts you like to throw around the word ASSume a lot but look who is doing it now when you speak of why we cleaned house. Please have your facts right as I dont go posting slanderous stuff about the industrial company you work for. Barry cleaned house in the tech department because it got to the point where there was very little customer service. Customers were not getting their calls returned, emails were not being answered, tech support lines were tied up for 30-45 minutes at a time and longer because the only part of the department was taking calls and customers parts were laying around and not being looked at on a timely basis. We have worked hard to correct these issues and improve daily which was evidenced by the fact that Barry himself worked an event this weekend with thousands and only had 5 or 6 people come up with issues and most of them occured a year ago or longer. You mention the racer board but fuel pumps are only a small part of our business compared to the carburetor and induction packages and that is just one board. We have good rapport on most of the boards we post on and on those we dont will still continue to help those we can.

6) The post DID NOT SAY "if ALL it needs is a seal kit". .

Bill, please dont add words when you post something I supposedly said as I have only directly cut and posted your direct statements . Nowhere do I use the words "seal kit" as we do not offer a kit. The pump gets resealed . My exact words as seen in the unedited post you quoted are ..."If it is just a leak it runs 25.00 to reseal them plus the shipping.

P-Dude, the whole isue was that it was posted on this board that it was $25 to fix the pump if it was leaking. It didn't say on the specific thread i referenced that it was $25 "unless we find something else wrong". It said $25 to fix the leak. ... But a representative of their company got on the board and said, "It will cost $25 to fix the leak".

none of the underlined above is accurate. when you re-word what is written it can change the meaning.

in your mind, you heard what you wanted to hear.

by your own post, here's what was written. note the key words are underlined and bolded in red.

you can't re-arrange the words or paraphrase it to suit your wishes, it's meaning is very clear.

Your reply:

if it is just a leak it runs 25.00 to reseal them plus the shipping.

It may be time to offer customers basic "rebuild" and/or seal kits for these pumps. If you have really high numbers of them out there, the parts sales alone will be worth the effort.

Of course there are always concerns with untrained folks rebuilding these sorts of things, but there really are some pretty sharp folks out there, and fuel pumps are a relatively simple/basic item without a lot of moving parts.

Having to send them back for a seal leak takes many race cars out of service. Not everyone can affort one or two back-up fuel pumps in the tool box. Just something to consider?......Cliff

Cliff. I think Barry answered your questions on this link. I can't copy it because it's an in your face statement. But basically lays it on the line. Have to agree with him on most of what he says.

Here's what happens when you send a customer a seal kit. They install it and then fire it up. 10 minutes later it locks & burns up and BG is to blame because now they spent money for a seal and the pump is fubar'd. If they woulda sent it to him they coulda checked it out, fixed it before the damage was done.

Pretty lengthy read, sounds like someone pushed the right button(s), and got quite a response out of him. Sounds a lot like some guy that used to visit these boards, if ya know who I mean?

In any case, guess we woln't be seeing any seal kits marketed anytime soon!

It may be time to train a few of us as depot level service facilities...hint, hint. I can rebuild the most complex automatic transmission(s) currently in service, pretty sure a fuel pump rebuild would be within reach.

I would imagine that this may be a case of the few making it bad for the many. Most of the crowd I race with are probably better at rebuilding alternators, starters, transmissions, engines and fuel pumps than most trained technicians. In Barry's defense, I know just as many folks who if you give them a bowling ball, and lock them up in a room for an hour, they will either have sex with it or break it!!!!.....Cliff

If BG had just put the seal in the pump and returned it, then it quit working the customer would have been ticked, From what I read they did just what they should have when they recieved the pump back, inspected it and contacted the owner with an estimate of the repair cost. BG did the right thing.

We will a lot of times extend warranty consideration depending upon the circumstances, not the person . Here is a good story regarding that which has occured over the last couple of weeks.

Barry himself has been going to various consumer trade shows and events and working the booth to get unvarnished opinions of what customers are actually saying in the field. These have all been national type car shows with hundreds of participants and even more spectators. Much to his pleasure with all of the participants at each show there have only been 2 -3 come up at each and voice their problems with him to which he turns them over to me to look into their issue.

At the last show he did have a guy come by who was using the Pontiac Six Shooter who was happy with it but shortly after that was another guy who had one and started raising @%#^ for close to 20 minutes about how poor it ran and now they could never adjust the center carburetor and he had taken it back off the car,put it on the shelf and put his original stuff back on. He went on to say how he would really like to put it back on the car as it did run real good for a little when they first installed it before doing this. He did not realize he was talking to Barry himself until after he left the booth but Barry told him to send it back and we would gladly take a look at it and fix it so he could take it off the shelf and use it again.

Barry hadn't even gotten back from the show before the guy called me and told me of this whole story and I informed him of the same to send it back for us to look at.

His carburetors arrived this week and our guys in the R&D department here opened them up to take a look. Much to our suprise we found a large piece of teflon tape covering the end of the needle and seat keeping it hung open as well as another large piece that had made its way through. This was apparently done when they installed in on the car as we do not use any teflon here.

For a few buck in parts and shipping back we decided to go ahead and take care of this guy and his 2400.00 investment and will be sending his carburetors back to him having fixed them for free and he should be good to go. We didn't have to but once again we did extend warranty to a customer and he can now reinstall his system and go enjoy it.

I do think businesses in this industry probably put up with more crap than most other businesses. You can really drag a company's name through the mud on a message board. You would be correct but I am hearing rumblings that there may be changes coming down the road. Right now there is not much accountability for what is posted on internet forums unless you are just downright slanderous but there are several lawsuits going worldwide which could change that. I don't remember the exact details [was not an automotive related] but a large company/corporation was sueing a consumer who had made numerous postings which had affected their business. I had heard this story on the tv news and do not know the outcomes but the newscaster went on to imply that this could very well make those think twice that post false , wrong or even information with half truths in it . They also went on to say this could set a precedent that regardless of the situation if the company could prove the postings caused losses that they may still have the recourse to bring suit and seek damages. It will be interested in seeing how all of this plays out over the next couple of years .

Yeah, and said companies can also loose their ass when the accusations are found to be true, and the defendant counter-sues the plaintiff for harrasment and such.

It's a double edge sword amigo.

The second you guys go after your customers, you would be taking your livelyhood into your own hands, and not in a good way either.

That is a very touchy subject around here,as one of our members is facing exactly what your talking about,it is his case that you are likely refering to hearing about,it was a former sponsor of this forum that is suing him, that situation has polarized lots of folks opinions on who's side they're on.

IMO,you guys would do well to listen to the customers once and a while, instead of acting like you already have all the answers (or the only answers that matter).

Oh,BTW,remember that were you go on the offensive legally speaking,if there are enough legitimate complaints about your product out there, expect said customers to get together on this deal via this great tool called the world wide web,and understand that you guys could inturn be facing a class action lawsuit over this sorta thing,so try running that by ya'lls legal department before you threaten to lawyer up over this deal.

You've already admitted on these forums that there were QC issues, you've already admitted you changed seal designs on those pumps, could not those sort of actions be construed as tacit admissions of previous problems???

You guys would'nt stand a chance in a court case over this.

Have a nice day sir.

And that would be the very reason why I did not mention the one here. Yes I heard about that one but the one I was referring to was not automotive related and not in the U.S. and the newscaster wnet on to say there were others here in this country.

I cannot see us doing this personally unless it was just something completely off the wall and the only time I know of this occuring in the past was when a guy posted that Barry was not using his own pumps and stuff on his race car and he had seen it for himself. That was a completely slanderous statement and needed to be addressed in the manner it was.

The point I was trying to make was that if thses precendents start occuring I think guys will start to think about what they actually post and not be as derogatory when doing so. I have no problem with a guy posting about a bad service or problems with a part as that is what we are here for to try and help.

Have a nice day sir.You are trying to read too much into my statement and making way to much of an assumption. In regards to the seal it was made to improve the product as manufacturers improve their products all the time. The old seal had been in use for 20+ years and is still in use by the other manufacturers. Would you rather we not try to improve any of our products? Give us some credit as we are at least looking to do so.

screamingchief. I think you read to much into his post. I agree with the statement that it seems John Q. Public can slam anyone and people seem to back them up not knowing all the facts because corporations now-a-days are looked at in the same light as the government. But let a company say something to back up there claim and they should not get involved or it will affect thier business. That's a bunch of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your right no matter who, you should have a right to express your facts. Then judge it from there. I have read pages upon pages on YB and this just goes to back up my point.

What is really a shame is that a person can say anything he wants on the internet and that he ran a BG pump and had nothing but issues.

BUT how is anyone outside his personal circle really gonna know if it's fact or fiction. I see it all the time and keep my mouth shut.

Why slam a manufacture if they have a valid point and just post the facts from their end?

So free speech with facts isn't allowed for all?

Customer is not always right.

If i EVER find the person who coined the phrase..."the customer is aways right"

We have 80 plus whsl accounts.
Deal with 20-30 on a daily basis.
Where up to me, i'd let 3-4 go.
2 have the worst A-hole owners AND service writers i dealt with in 20 yrs, yet the boss kisses thier ass.
Them and the other 2 only buy when its cheaper, and return at least a 1/3rd of it.
Mostly special orders.
And IT's aways our mistake

Maybe BG should offer a " Rebuild service ". Instead of a " resealing service "
They are rebuilt, no matter what....Flat rate.
Then, you get what you pay for, and there are no surprises. I would think that if someone is thinking $25.00 or whatever cost, then they get a higher quote, it will rub them the wrong way.
Just a suggestion.

If indeed you have read all these threads Dude, you'd damn well know that I've never once "slammed" them for posting their side of this deal, all I've done is advise them to tone down the langauge they were using when doing so,I did so to try and keep them from making themselves look like huge jacka$$e$ when they blurt out some pointless dribble that did nothing to further the point at hand.

They did'nt much listen to that advice, and they went ahead and made the whole thing even worse with the "rant" from Mr. Grant over @ YB.

Further I suggested that they take a good look at the problem from a fresh point of view, from a POV that is other than their own for once, you know, try looking at the issue from another fellas perspective and such.

But again,I doubt that advice is getting thru.

I never once said they dont have a right to voice their side,I just advised them to pause a moment, and consider how it is gonna sound to the guy reading their posts on the other side of the monitor, ask me calling them "wannabe racers" and such, well that does'nt really help their case much at all,it only hurts it.

That's a lot like Phill Gramm calling the US a nation of whiners.

That sorta "let them eat cake" attitude is bound to alienate some folks out there.

I also have'nt slammed any BG products in any of these threads neither,I simply dont use enough of them to have the sorta issues being discussed,I've seen plenty of others who were not so fortunate though, but I would agree a fair share of that is on the owners of those vehicles at times as well.

Seen plenty use their stuff and have zero problems too.

I even tried to help Bill on this,,,but he said he "missed" that post,,,oh well what more can a fella do...

The only BG product I've bought in the past that I did'nt care to use was an old blister packed secondary side notched float for a holley,it looked like they notched it,and then did'nt bother to reseal the nitrophyl coating, which IMHO is a big no-no as the float will soak up fuel and end up sinking, but were I inclined to use that float,it is easy enough for me to fix that on my own.

Further,in the one thread,I even stated plainly I was still considering using some other products of theirs guys,so dont shoot me just yet fellas, cuz I aint the enemy.

I'm just telling the folks @ BG to tone down the level of rhetoric they're spewing, before something is said that they'll really regret.

They been doing pretty well at points,,,and then bam,,,out will come some off the wall comment that sounds like a spoiled 5 year old kid said it or something....

Agreed, from a professional level, once you've made your point, carefully worded as it should be, you're done. Move on, don't get pulled back into it.
The more Tech argues the worse BG looks. He made a good case, leave it at that.

I get the impression neither of these gents are used to loosing arguments so they don't know when to quit.

Maybe, just maybe when they mention prices, they should mention the prices for ALL the given service possibillities,up to,and including the price of full pump replacement, instead of just quoting the single lowest priced possibillity, some would say that practice is slightly misleading.

If I were them,I would have a seperate section on the website with all this information plainly stated for all customers to reference, then when on the web the Tech @ BG guy can just hyperlink any customers with those questions to that web page, then there would be no possible way for the customer to confuse where he may or may not stand on this, but that would be too simple a solution now would'nt it???

Like I said over @ YB.com,they need a few "common sense" type folks around that joint.

Someone with fresh ways of looking at old problems.

Just a suggestion. We offer that if a guy is in a big hurry and doesn't mind getting an "exchange" pump back but it runs the same as a rebuild and a motor which is 179.00 . I would say though that 90% of the guys calling for pumps on the phone insist it only needs a seal even when we do tell them it may need more and that we cannot tell until it gets here.We then will tell them it could run up to 179.00 as long as the body and bypass are ok [those 2 generally do not go bad] . A rebuild runs 125.00 but not all the pumps need a full rebuild and we only put what the pump needs to get it back to spec. With this said it could come in and say need a reseal , rotor and veins. This repairs only runs 65.00 plus the shipping so it really varies.

For the benefit of everyone out there running this pump setup, what did BG determine was the root cause of the pump damage?

Debris ingestion (ie, Filter not fine enough, threads pulled out and got chewed up)?
Pitting? (AKA, Cavitation damage)
Gauling?
Bearings?
Running dry?
Discharge pressure setting to high?
Inlet pressure to low?
Fuel?
Heat?
Structural??
Design?

PS-If I was BG, I would be pro-actively compiling historical data on all my component
failures, use the data to highlight design "opportunities", and implement changes that truely effect reliability.

To get the data, I'd setup a page on the BG website for customers to document and report issues (capture part numbers, issues, symptoms, application, etc.). This would help take the he said/she said stuff out of the picture and focus on the facts.

That would work great. Sent my BHJ balancer in for a recal/build and it was a flat rate of $75.00. Same as when I sent circuit boards out for repair at work, fixed cost. Guess they save a bit and lose a bit but in the end it all averages out.

And it seem like that is the standard policy in various other industries. Fixed rate rebuild/replacement or unrepairable.

Something for all to consider
