I know I'm dreaming but if anyone out there has or knows of a nos (or mint) 73 formula wheel that has not been restored and is in original condition please PM me in order to discuss.

Is there a difference between 73 and 76? I have a very nice steering wheel from a 76 formula.

Are your original wheels circumferential mold pattern, or race track mold pattern?

The 76 wheel is the same style (anodized spokes) however its grip is a smaller dimension. As far as how they where mfg'd you got me ????? never really looked to see if its a two piece mold pattern or not????????
I know that the production was pretty consistent across the board less the diameter of the grip changing over the years.
I can get and post the overall dimensions if that helps????????

Check for a mold seam on the outer edge vs two mold seams on the backside of the wheels. Mint is a tall order, because to me mint and NOS should look the same, except for perhaps screw mounting blemishes if it was a new car take-off.

There is one mold seam and it appears the original had the front mold large then the rear since the seam is more toward the rear of the wheel instead of being in the middle.
There are some wheels where the mold seam is in the middle but this was on the later series in which the diameter was change too.

Bottom line the wheel needs to be nice like new condition for a show car and the anodize spokes need to be correct compared to being painted which allot of the restored wheels have today.

Happen to know 'a guy' who has an NOS in GM box, Fat wheel with hub assy.

I'll have him try to check this week on grip circumference and anodizing of spokes.

Might be 2-3 weeks, though.

Him a busy boy right now.

But there is "some" hope for your quest.
You'll at least get a picture of it, at minimum. lol

The floor mats I have are the typical hour glass shape one which are the re=pop's with the GM noted in the upper middle and yes there in black.
Like those green rears and to bad you dont having the matching fronts.

Bottom line for any poci judging your suppose to have all mats out of the car even if they came with it.

In an effort to learn more, I just took a look at the Formula wheel with hub that I've had in a box for over 20 years. It has a single mold pattern around the outer circuference of the wheel with a one inch diameter rim. What year or years is my wheel correct for? It was originally purchased, used, in 1986 for my 74 SD.

From what my friends and I have figured there where three different sizes of second gen wheels. The fatty (1-1/4"), middle (1-1/8"), thin (1"), all with black anodized spokes, but sporting different shaded hubs depending upon year........

I'm guessing that the one I have, without any IC or ICX markings on the back at the six o'clock position & the single seam around the outer circuference, with a hand grip dia. of 1" X 1 1/8" & the overall wheel dia. of 14 1/4", with the black metal spokes. Is probably for a mid 70s Firebird rather than an early 70s Firebird. Have I made any bad assumptions here?

The hub on my wheel looks to have the same finish as the one you have pictured here. What years was that finish used on?
Also, I found another wheel that is the same as the one I described earlier in this thread, except on the back of the spoke at 6 oclock position, there is some sort of a (for lack of a better word) round casting mark or flaw.

The one I pictured above is from my 73 car which is original to the car. I have a nos one that is for a later car (I think) since it is a little darker in color.????
