First, please don't start by telling me how can I live with myself for putting a Chevy in a Pontiac. I'm going to do this because my 68 Pontiac Tempest has no real $$ value to me and I have a 454 around 600hp. This is a Marine 4 bolt block and I need to know what the known problems are. I understand the motor and trans mounts need changing. Also, the oil pan will likely hit the crossmember. I will likely use a TH400 and replace the rear end and driveshaft also.
I'm just looking for some good advice on known issues and how to deal with them. It still looks like a Pontiac :)

:cool:This an easy swap lankster because your 68 frame is the same as a 68 chevelle. All's you need are the 68 chevelle (small block big block) chevy motor mounts and frame brackets. There should be existing holes for the chevy in your frame already. The turbo 400 is a bolt in (chevy case) just move the existing two speed cross member back to the existing holes in the frame for the 400 thats it. It's a bolt in. You will need a turbo 400 length driveline with the correct u-joints. If you running power steering The long water pump, pulleys and power steering pump and hoses from a 70's big block fit well You may have to modify the wiring to fit. Oil pan will fit unless you have some crazy race pan. So easy you'd thought it was a Chevelle

From what I have read I did not think there were any major issues. Thanks.

Definatly check on the oil pan, GM did make a few different ones. I have had a few Chebby's. I did have a '74 T/A with a 400 sb Chebby in it, I beat up on a few Pontiac powered T/A's with it.I love my Corvette & my Trucks. I still want a '65 Impala. If people are true gear heads they will respect any Hot Rod. Although foreign cars do suck!:usa2:

Joe - Old post but do you still have the Chevelle BB motor frame mounts?

I have my motor almost done and am looking for the mount to convert from the 350 Pontiac to the 454 Chevy. I also need a complete set of 454 pulleys and brackets if anyone has some they are interested in selling. AC/Alt/PS
