Old Bird

Just wanted to say Thanks to Gregg for all the info and time spent on the phone helping me get my 67 firebird 400 motor set up the way I wanted it to be. The block was bored 30 balanced and blueprinted by another engine builder. I had 143 heads rebuilt for the motor and a speed pro 1022 cam installed. I had read that installing 1.65 rockers was a instant performance upgrade, so I put them on (my fault) . That was before I found this site or had read that the push rod holes had to be made bigger. Well it ran fine for about 100 miles and a push rod broke. I was lucky that the push rod broke at the tip and just fell over next to the rocker arm. No harm was done to the motor. After much time talking to Gregg about the tranny and rear gears I was running he suggested a using another cam for the set up that I had. It never shifted the way I wanted from the start. I put rebuilt 6X 4 heads on with a smaller Ultra Dyne cam, lifters, Adjustable roller rocker arms and poly locks. Cam was degreed in. It now runs and shifts like a dream. It runs cooler and idles smooth as silk and still has great power. I just wanted a nice street cruiser not a race car. It also runs great on regular unleaded gas. Was allot of work tearing the top of the motor down when it had so little time on it, but I'm glad I did now that it is running again. Just to bad that winter is setting in and wont be able to get it out much until spring. Can't wait for summer!!!!!
