Beware of David Smith of Kentucky

This happened over a extended period but, I purchased a car from him a few years ago. It had a 455 in it. Before the deal was done, I asked if the engine had steel or cast rods in it. Immediately after the purchase and tearing the engine down I discoved he lied about the steel rods. In fact they were stock cast rods. The main reason I made the purchase was for the car and not the engine, so I did not press the matter with Smith.

I witnessed this first hand so this is not hearsay. Fast foward to recently, a friend just purchased a complete, tall deck engine from David Smith off race junk for 15k. Smith claimed the engine was susposed to be recently freshened and race ready. My buddy installed the engine in his car and he noticed it had quite a bit of blowby. After a leakdown, out comes the engine and discovered there had been two thinwall sleeves installed, which were pulled out by hand and the block was cracked. Smith claimed the reason he was selling the engine was for health reasons. This was an outrite lie, he knew the engine was no good.

This guy is no newcomer to racing so he knew what he was selling a piece of sheite. His car used to be on Butlers website, (maybe still on there). It is a red 3 generation bird.
