Craigslist scam buyer Mark Taylor?

As some of you may have noticed I have a pair of 540306 heads for sale. I listed them on several websites including craigslist Houston. I got a hit on that ad from someone named Mark Taylor asking if the heads were still available and I answered yes. Then I get the following response from the person

Thanks for the prompt response to my mail, I am a Marine Engineer, I
am at sea right now. I am buying this for my personal use so am
willing to offer you the amount you required. I can only pay through
PayPal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account
online(I don't have internet banking with it), but i have it attached
to my PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to
pay, All i will need is your PayPal email address so that i can
expedite the payment asap, and if you don't have a PayPal account yet,
you can set one up at www.PayPal.com it can't take you less than
3mins to do that, I will be expecting your PayPal email so l can
expedite the payment at once. I have a pick up agent that will come
for the pick up after payments has been sorted. l will be waiting for
your reply asap. please include your final price for the listing. Best

Tell him to paypal the money to his 'pick up' agent... Next, have his 'pick up agent' 'pick up' cash at the bank...then his 'pick up' agent can come 'pick up' the heads...

Any more when I sell stuff on craigslist I use the hide email option and just include my cell number. It seems to eliminate the trouble of dealing with the scammers.

I didn't think of that but will remember it. Every time I list anything on craigslist I start getting scam responses.

On craigslist list i never replied to emails,i leave my phone # and state in the ad "Do Not email me". Yours sounds like a scammer.

I'd say it is a scam. What time of day did the email arrive? Most scams show up early AM hours.

I got nearly the same response word from word from 2 different scammers while advertising OEM brake booster and Master cylinder on CL. CL is a cesspool, but, sometimes ya get someone serious.

Something sure sounds fishy and its so convenient that hes overseas.. If you do answer him back I would tell him to call you to discuss the transaction and see if he does or not.. If he doesn't then you obviously know its a scam but if he does then you can do from there..

Have his agent pay you cash and escort the agent to the bank and deposit the cash, counterfitting is getting big too.

I know this is an old thread, but i just wanted to share my similar experience.

In my case, I had listed a 1991 Caprice station wagon on CL.
I received an almost identical reply from some guy who claimed to be stationed overseas right now. I suspected a scam, so I replied to see what the next move would be.
Eventually, he got around to claiming that he could not send the funds via PayPal due to "network problems" and he asked me to accept the payment for the car AND the shipping to Australia, then pay his shipper, who only accepts Western Union money orders. He explained that he would pay me via PayPal, but PayPal would nold the funds until his transport company notified PayPal that the money had been received through Western Union. Then, PayPal would transfer the funds to my PayPal account. HUH??? lol

All of these go down the same path; eventually they ask you to pay some amount of $ via Western Union. If you do it, your $ is lost.

It was kinda fun dragging this guy out for several days, but in the end I got tired of the BS and told him I was not interested in selling the car to him with all of his special requirements.

The wagon is still for sale...
