I received this email from NPD today concerning their new GTO catalog.

Since you inquired about the GTO, Lemans and Tempest catalog recently, I wanted to give you an update on it.

Our current plan is to have the catalog ready in print and on the NPDLink website by the second week of October 2012. We are close to finishing it, as I have over 3,000 part numbers currently in our database, and over 2,000 are available for purchase and in stock (with more stock coming in every week)!

If there is anything in particular you’re looking for, let me know and I’ll see if we can supply it!

Derek

Hope ya have a flat tire. Just kidding. ;) I've been waiting for their GTO catalog since they said it was coming out last Fall, then this past Winter...... Looks like it's gonna be last Fall + 1 whole year.

Rocky, did he mean they could sell us parts now even before the catalog is out? I've got Derek's number saved just in case.

I drive through Ocala every Thursday. I need to stop there this Thursday so I'll find out for sure if some parts are available. I'll post Thursday evening after work and let you know.

AHHHHH. This is Performance Years Forum. I would think that this just might be inappropriate to post this here.....But if I'm wrong I apologize

Was thinking the same. If I can't get something from PY then I'll go elsewhere but that hasn't happen yet. But if the Company is local to you I can see your patronizing them. PY is local for me. JMO Tom

Wow, no kidding on the disrespect thing. PY gives us this site, the best Pontiac forum, and we give props to the new guy in town? If you want to buy from NPD, or OPGI, or Year One, fine, but don't advertise it here. On the same note, I think we should avoid bashing those companies here, however easy it might be. ;)

Just saw this thread....National Parts has been a customer of ours for many years. I have been to their Ocala warehouse when I was attending Don Garlits Mopar fall event. I remember when GTO parts were only sold by a handful of companies.... makes me seem ancient now!

The business has grown......

you want to talk bashing......
next time you buy a part, check the other side of the new piece.
For example....I have bought parts from Ames [and others] and the part would have
"The Parts Place"
stampped on it.

The Parts Place and Joe's $$$$ are behind the majority or repop parts. Some good some BAD.

Above statements are true many companies ourselves included supply other companies with their products. Each company has their own customer base. This is not lost even on the Ford GM level. Example every 2003-2004 Mustang Cobra has the exact same radiator cap as all the C5 Corvettes.

The list is endless....also known as private labeling. We do it with the ZDDPlus product long as a company buys 1,000 or more bottles they get to design their own label for it.

Parts Place as noted is a major player and has been for many years.

Our small claim to fame is the 1964-65 GTO splitters no matter where you buy them 99% certain we were the supplier. As far as I am aware no other company has tackled
this part.

Our company just doesn't imprint our name or logo on any parts never have.

I've found that it's best to stick with vendors who supply ONLY pontiac parts, they usually sell the best repo parts available ( like PY does!) the vendors who supply product for 50 different vehicles tend to sell some "chevy parts" as correct for Pontiacs, in an effort to reduce inventory. i used to live 45 mins away from "the Paddock" before it went out of business, never did much business with them for that reason. BTW not really cool to advertise other competitors on PY's website!

I just wish PY would do something about their on-line store/catalogs...they're extremely user unfriendly...compared to other big players. Ames has probably the best of the lot.
Just saying....makes it hard to support the forum owner when its hard to find something you need.

I'll second that.

Amazon could make a killing if they licensed out their online catalog techniques to other retailers.

I look at it this way... If PY doesn't have what you need, then info on someplace that does have it shouldn't matter. If I can't find parts I need somewhere I'll look elsewhere... and like it or not I'll pass on that info.

NPD has parts neither PY or Ames has, and why I've no idea. An example is 15" wiper blade refills, not the whole assembly that goes on the wiper arm, just the blade refill. And NPD is the only vendor I've seen that has them.

Another example. OPG is the only vendor that has the correct non ac kick panels with the stock vents for 66. Exact replacement. No one else has them... why?

There, so shoot me.

I buy from all of them. I do not have a blind loyalty to any one of them, although PY's lack of interest in carrying a decent selection of parts for '73-'77 A bodies already reproduced kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth.......

I just hate ordering from X-Vender and the item has Y-Vender stamped on it.
If I wanted Y-Vender,I would have orderd from Y-Vender.
Makes you wonder about mark up and the middle man.

The Parts Place produces quite a few of the reproduction parts that PY, AMES and others sell. AMES produces some of their own parts, and it is noted in their catalog which ones they make. Not sure about PY.

Long before I was even on the internet I decided that PY was the best out there after trying to "spread it around" and buy from every Pontiac vendor out there - I used the "price match" to my advantage and listed the parts I needed at that particular time and what each vendor wanted for the parts. PY was the overall lowest, so I chose to go with them and have them price match what was higher in their catalog. They did it no problem. What I found was pleasant people to deal with, and like someone else stated, I prefer to patronize Pontiac specific vendors. Of course once I got on the 'net I was pleasantly surprised to see that my "favorite" vendor also had the coolest site on the internet.

OPG is closer to me so if I have to have it fast I order from them, and haven't had the problmes with them that some people speak of.

A couple notes about them selling other vendor's stuff:

1) It makes sense that all this stuff is made mostly by the same source - surely there's not enough demand out there for everyone to make their own...

2) Last year I needed some '67 GTO grille surrounds and tried to buy from PY - they said that they didn't have anything available so I got them from OPG - when I got them from OPG they had Ames labels on them. I have no problem with that and in fact would have preferred to have gotten the same Ames units from PY (somebody tell them that most of us don't mind)

BUT - I don't like to have my stuff backordered forever just so a vendor can get them somewhere else and make a buck. Drop ship is ok too as long as the timeframe is acceptable.

Few points to ponder from one that was there at the very beginning in the GTO parts reproduction business.

Every company is going to have its core of loyal customers.

Most companies will offer everything that they can get their hands on from other suppliers as they need to keep up with the times and demand.

While its true such and such may not like a specific company they will buy from another company and still may end up with a part from the company they don't like to deal with.

In the Mustang world for example we have had one part sell over 30,000 pieces...with 90% being sold to companies rather than end consumers...by making parts for other car lines puts more money back to companies to make more parts for car models that may not have big numbers in sales.

Its tough for any company to put all their eggs in one basket meaning cater strictly to one narrow model or make. You may do it for awhile if that car model is "hot" but the day usually comes when that model turns cold. We used to make PT Cruiser and Miata parts....few years ago they were "hot markets". Today its the new Camaro which we make parts for also.

Its a game of numbers.....

There are parts that only our company makes and we sell to every Pontiac/GTO supplier and I am sure others do likewise.

I have gone up to Corvette owners and pointed out my parts on their cars and they say no way it came from such and such...I tell them thats rite because we sell to them.

None of us companies are perfect....but the ones that have been around a long time PY included must be doing a few things rite....

Just my two cents worth....
