Jeff,
Thank you for your concern. ;) This is an older highly modified system. I have replaced the CPU with one 137.5% faster. I also replaced the original heat sink, fan and ducting with a redesign cooling system by me. It has not overheated and has not had any head gasket, piston or valve problem. :) I do have a pile of spare parts as well as another desktop unit and laptop which are both newer, I just like the old iron better. :D So have no fear about me ever being off-line.

Hey Kinsler - thanks for leaving me off your stupid list this year. I didn't want to be on it anyway. Your just one of those illuminati, 1%er go fast snobs.

Wait until I get to Norwalk someday, I'm going to stop in Pennsylvania on the way and buy a bunch of bottle rockets and strap them to the back of my car and drag you down the track! (Unfortunately like Daffy Duck I can only do it once). That'll show you.

John, if you put a decent nitrous plate on your car what do you think it would realistically run? I was always under the impression that you wanted to try and build the most HP NA you could and then add nitrous.

Mike,

We were at Norwalk in 2010 and 2011. Won "Best Engineered" in 2011. Ran 7.80's both years in the heat and bad air. And we did this without Gaby heads, Gaby intake or Dale Cubic carbs.

The reason we sat out 2012 and 2013 lands squarely in the lap of the rican and his merry band of sub-contractors. True story. I could write a book on that whole frickin' fiasco, but won't get into it now.

Will regroup and make it this year. Maybe see you there.

I guess Mike and Jack are going to be disappointed when they wont get a "Keyboard Killer" award at Norwalk. :D .........Unless.... Maybe they add that award this year?

They better move up on their keyboard skills... cut n paste out of context is so boring... re-posting others creative videos... pathetic... make things up that arent true... kid stuff... keyboard bullying...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Anyone can do that!

Looks like a lot of competition this year.

Then name dropped gabby three times in a single sentence in a negative light while patting himself on the back some more.

Then blamed gaby for not making norwalk.

Then said he'll be there this year. again GREAT

Then I posted my response of, why go through all that....oh yeah to try and divert attention away from the NO he was not there.

I like mr fulton and have no "beef" with him. He is clearly pandering to you goof balls though i'm not sure why.

I made my point that I noticed he was reluctant to say NO, and that I thought the blaming of his absence on gaby was a little lame.

I'm not defending gaby, more was saying it was a poor venue for a bash.

Mike,
I guess I hear what you are saying, but considering I’m lumped into the CV-1 nut huggers, I thought I would respond. The first time I saw Fulton’s car was at the Cordova BOP event around 2010. The moment I had the chance to see his car, he instantly earned my respect as it is one of the best engineered Pontiac race cars I have ever seen, it’s work of art. I also posted that here (PY) as that’s how I felt after seeing the car run regardless of the heads on the car. Over the last few years I’ve had the chance to talk with Dick about cylinder head development as he felt at some point in the future he would want to make a change. We talked about Tigers, KRE HP’s, RAV’s, and CV-1’s. he was also following the progress Robin was making when Robin was active. He decided to upgrade his E-heads vs starting over as he was still “watching”. I was not involved in his decision to test CV-1’s, but him and I still had a dialog as he has purchased other items from me. His results showed merit in what he felt all along, the CV-1’s showed promise.

Dick is a big boy and can defend himself, I also know by seeing his car and the ET’s he has run he is a smart guy even though some here feel the need to take shots at him.

Mike,

The thrill of going racing just to go racing has long lost it's luster for me. I was bracket racing back in the 70's when there were still five amber lights on the tree. LOL. Now, since we have gone heads-up racing, the only reason to take the car out to the track is to try to improve it's performance. Therefore, it was never my intention to bring the little motor with the CV-1 heads to Norwalk. There was some chatter about that possibility here on PY, but not from me. I made our plans clear that we would run our Gaby headed 511 at Norwalk, and if time permitted, we would try the little CV motor later in the fall. As events unfolded, none of the above happened.

My motivation for building the car was to do something that hadn't been done: Run 7's in a street legal Pontiac. We compete in a heads-up street legal class at BIR. Minimum weight is 3100 lbs. But there is NO limit on cubic inches. So we are most often up against cars with much larger engines. Even so, we are right in the thick of things. Our last race we attended in 2011, we were in the finals against a 632" nitrous Camaro. It was an awesome 7 second, side by side race ....... except for the fact that we lost by .04.

Like many here, I was drawn to Gaby by reputation. We met at Norwalk in 2011 and talked about stepping up our program (so I could beat that 632" Camaro). I sent him my junk in November 2011 and he came up with a plan that included additional head porting, new sheet metal intake, higher ratio rocker arms and Dale Cubic carburetors.

I told him I needed to have the motor on the dyno by March 2012 and in the car on the track by April 2012. He assured me that would be "no problem". I took him at his word - didn't call him, didn't email him, didn't bug him - shouldn't have to. However, March came and went without any word from Florida. So, first week in April I sent an email inquiring about my junk. That's when the dance began. There followed months of excuses, broken promises, apologies, "problem vendors", etc., etc. So I was sitting on my hands, expecting heads and intake to arrive "any day now", when in fact it was just a lie. The heads didn't arrive until late July. The intake didn't arrive until after Labor Day. So there went our 2012 season.

Now, I don't have a problem with sub-contracting work, provided there are adequate project management and quality controls in place, which there were NOT. Neither the heads or the intake were useable as delivered. The intake looked like a high school shop project gone wrong. I couldn't believe my eyes. I sent a detailed email with pictures of the multiple - and I do mean multiple - machining and fitment issues. I would be embarrassed to let a product out the door like that. Once again, he was very apologetic, took full responsibility and promised that if I sent them back, they would "drop everything" and turn them around for me. I believe he was embarrassed too, and I got the feeling that he had never actually laid eyes or hands on the heads or intake. Don't know - just speculating.

I sent them back in the beginning of October 2012. End of November, I got an email stating that the intake was fixed and they were starting on the heads. Fast forward to February 2013 - still no heads and intake. Apparently our definitions of "drop everything" are different. Somewhere in this time frame, I read on PY that wreckmastr had received his Gaby intake manifold and that it was a work of art, pretty enough to display on a coffee table. I about blew a gasket.

Sent an email inquiring about my junk. Was told everything was done (heard that one before) and they just had to cut the receiver grooves in the heads. I reminded him that those were o-ring grooves, not receiver grooves. He said they would need to get additional tooling to do o-ring grooves. I told him to just send them back as is. The heads came back in March 2013 with (you guessed it) receiver grooves cut in them. Then "they" took a hammer and center punch and pounded dimples around the insides and outsides of the receiver grooves, apparently trying to crush them tight enough to hold a stainless o-ring. I don't have to tell you how well that worked out. This is just one small example of the quality of work we received. I can't make this stuff up.

Without getting into more detail, there were still machine work issues, water issues and fitment issues. While tackling these one at a time, the weeks turned into months. Finally got it pieced together and to the dyno. This motor made 920 hp four years ago. The shortblock is unchanged - just freshened. With better heads, better intake, better carbs and higher ratio rockers, it should have picked up SOMETHING, but it was an absolute lazy pig. Our best pull was only 860 hp. In the end, we could only laugh, as it was a fitting finale to two years of frustration. I took it home, rolled it into a corner, threw a blanket over it and haven't touched it since.

So there went our 2013 season and why we didn't make Norwalk. Is it all Gaby's fault? No, but a certain percentage certainly falls his way. No one is infallible. We'll find the lost horsepower. What really pisses me off is that I can't get the last two years back. That is the worst part.

Man That really blows!! Sorry Dick :(
Just to add my Opinion ,people stick alot of MONEY into their cars these days and for anyone to bash another on their cars or what their building is just down right rude period!
Hope to see your car out this year, It truly is a work of art!

Dick -

It is difficult to go through something like this and many times just as hard to write about it. I appreciate your candor and willingness to share this in an objective manner and simply stating the facts.

There are always two sides to any situation, but you have made your side clear. Short of the loss of time I hope, to some degree, this was or will be addressed to some level of satisfaction.

No person, business or industry is perfect, so things like this can happen even to the best customers and businesses, but it is still difficult to read and certainly endure.

Good luck and I sincerely wish you smoother sailing this year.

DICK,
WELL...whewww...dam it.

I hope you get your program back on track soon. We are very similar in that this game for me is not about writing numbers on the windshield and letting off the throttle to win. Its a horsepower generation and in car application game for me.

I was the happiest guy to breakout in the Norwalk q16 last year, promise thats true.

Hopefully you can put this behind you and move on. All bitter divorces are difficult to process....just this one is unmet expectations on car parts instead of life partners. Don't know the other side or really want to hear it. Gabys been a good guy to me although not a customer of his, I'd sure think something very out of the ordinary happened here.

The sooner you let go of the bitterness the sooner YOU will be enjoying your hobby again.

So what are your predictions? What heads you gonna run? If and I say IF you run CVs and bust some azz....that'd be good for you and "COOL and the GANG"

Lets meet up at norwalk and have a cigar....I don't drink so you can have my beer for me :)

This is the Race Section Under Pontiac Tech

When I first started posting here there was a good number of technical threads. But for the past few month there has been much less technical discussions and much more **** threads.

So I am in the process of reevaluating what if any value this section (Race) has.

Clearly the Street and Boost section still have a great variety in topics and discussion.

I agree fully.

This used to be a great section, but now it's the 'Clubhouse' worse than the 'Lobby' where most of these posts belong.

Where's the 'technical' or 'race' stuff is, I don't know.
And no EHTTFMF is not race or technical.

Also thought the name calling, back stabbing, etc was not allowed.

But I guess if your an ECM fan it is OK.

:(

I really thought when you came on this board it would really help the racers out.
Along with some of the other people that have came along also like Chad S. and others it was starting to get good.

But if we wanted a 'YB' type board we could always go there.

That is the main reason I don't go there is too much blowing and posturing and no real substance.

Guess it's time to find something else also.

Stan,

Relax I'm not about to slam you. By technical discussions do you mean theoretical discussions of hypothesis and Ideas?

Or more like discussions on various parts, methods, and procedures to advance a particular racer in need of help or possibly us all.

Or does it look more like a couple guys discussing their Ideas and theories completely unchecked. Those theories and hypothesis are the GOLDEN rule and whomever has the best IDEA wins regardless of facts or some racers experience IN THAT VERY AREA.

THERES A WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE HERE IN THE RACE SECTION.

lots of us help each other out of problems and improve each others combos. Some are only here to gain or share knowledge....thats cool too. The problems start when there is no separation between IDEAS and EXPERIENCE. THEN BACK AND FORTH. 9 times out of 10 that back and forth is someone with actual experience and more usable data asking for the IDEA to be verified with some facts.......THE SHEIT HITS THE FAN WHEN THE DANCE STARTS. Somewhere in here we need to insert the cheerleaders of products and vendors because of philosophy or emotional attachment, or detachment. Saying the IA2 sucks and the MR1 is the BEST while owning neither is just RIDICULOUS! If you examined the 2 and have an opinion fine....state it as such and move on. Same for heads.....and before either side gets all excited.....BOTH sides are evaluating each others performance. Failing to recognize the performance or lack of on either side makes you an emotional weiner. LOVE your favorite football team...hate the other guys if you want. This math and physics not an allegiance sport.

Would make for more useful and enjoyable forum if the IDEA guys would just say " why no I don't have any proof to back that up......Do you have some particular experience or useful data that you can share?" Both sides can potentially learn something here. The Idea guys can contribute as well as I'm always interested in ways to make hp or go faster with what I have...and so are others.

I won't sit idle while theories are discussed as facts. If you even have a reasonable argument for you theory OK cool I'll listen. But If guys want to feel like a big shot and say things that may cause just one person to waste their hard earned money......there are going to be folks to set the record strait. Just how it is

As we get closer to spring people start to reveal what their winter projects were and improvements that were made.

This is a member driven board, if the members want more tech then ask more questions. There are tech questions being posted, but most members are snowed out of their garage.

So let me get this straight -- you have an Engine that made 920 hp -- you get you heads modified to replicate the same program that had made at or near 1000 hp and you can -- as your own engine builder -- only get 860 hp out of the deal -- Do you see where the problem lies with pointing fingers at " the other guy " ???

We see it stated all the time here and most live by that creedo - what may be a good port, good cam , good head ect.ect for one guy may not work for another guy if his combination is different or wrong to maximize it. Point is if the heads worked on a number of other cars and applications but they didnt on yours just maybe its not the heads, Im not trying to take a shot at you but im trying to explain the logic behind my statement.

We see it stated all the time here and most live by that creedo - what may be a good port, good cam , good head ect.ect for one guy may not work for another guy if his combination is different or wrong to maximize it. Point is if the heads worked on a number of other cars and applications but they didnt on yours just maybe its not the heads, Im not trying to take a shot at you but im trying to explain the logic behind my statement.

i think you guys are missing the fact that besides the drop in hp he was given an intake that didnt fit and looked like a "shop class" built it lol, i think he was more disappointed with the missed deadlines ( by a lot ) and poor quality, maybe the cam wasnt ideal for the new top end . but when it looks like they took a hammer and chisel to the deck to hold the o ring wire in.... thats a problem. pretty sure he was more concerned with the quality of the work performed. l.j. and kinsler had good results with gaby . thats awesome, but fulton didnt, and didnt go into details until ecm kept trying to come up with excuses why it was b.s. then he posted the story . i wouldnt be surprised if pics followed. only dick and gaby KNOW the truth 100%. just my $.02 not that you guys care.

Curt,

I realize you are the latest poster boy for Gaby and therefore want to defend him. I understand that. There are two things you should know: 1) Gaby was given our cam specs and at no time did he make any cam change recommendations. 2) Changing from a 1.6 rocker to a 1.85 rocker is already a significant "cam change". Is the cam perfect for the "improved" top end? No, but it is close. Close enough to have made some base line numbers to tune from. I am not asking for help diagnosing our power loss. We'll deal with that in house.

Losing power is merely a footnote in this two year fiasco. Having to sit on the sidelines for two years while our competition catches up to us infuriates me. Having to watch two years of re-certifications go to waste infuriates me. Being lied to month after month infuriates me. Getting shoddy workmanship from some unknown sub-contractor, instead of the artwork that Gaby is known for, infuriates me. Having to do things twice infuriates me. Having to do it over a third time infuriates me even more.

Again, is it all Gaby's fault? No, but to have allowed this project to get so far behind and so fouled up is ultimately his responsibility. As you can tell, I am more upset about losing the two years than anything else. We have a lot of ground to make up.

Agree with you about the TIME deal. You can't ever get that back.
That being said, lately you can read posts about Heads with screwed up seats, (according to the owner). Blocks that were improperly machined, Intake manifolds possibly made by a sub-contractor that needed additional work, Headers that don't fit, Valvetrain that doesn't look right, yada, yada, yada.

So is the PY board a bad place for posting this info, not really.
Info just tells the people buying that it is not a perfect world out there.

BE PREPARED for less than you expected. BE HAPPY when you see outstanding work like the "Magic Man's" stuff. Course MM is making the stuff for FRANK.

Even FRANK has issues with stuff not always being dead nuts on the money at times.

But don't let it drag you down Dick, because that is water over the dam now.
Climb back into the saddle and start a new day. You are still here, breathing.
Beats the chit out of the alternative. Lets go racing in 2014!

I can only relate given MY experience - remember perception is reality. And the statement that only you and Gabby know the complete story -- and you each have your own "reality", that being said I can only comment on what I have experienced and that is that Gabby has been nothing but fair and up front with me - AND produced the results promised. Have we had disagrements, sure, did he handle them as an absolute proffesional -- absolutley, I can't say the same about some other shops that come here and spout off about there products or programs. My point still is -- if you have the same product that many others have made very succesfull and you cannot duplicate the results, is it the product or the end user -- And where do you mention the complete new manifold that you were provided to address the quality issues of the first ??? It does sound like an honest effort was made to resolve the issues - I do understand about the time, but to be honest Id NEVER WAIT for two years to get stuff together-- not unless I excepted at least some of the blame for the issues at hand and felt the time issue was a shared event. Some times " relationships" just dont work and everyone needs to move on, If one side is a complete dick - thats the time to throw stones - if both sides just can not find middle ground to work on - time to move on.

I keep seeing stones being thrown towards Dick as if he is incompetent. He made 920 HP (with 13.5 to 1 compression) with a set of Butler wide ports and a manifold by KRE. His car has run well into the 7's @ over 3000 lbs on a hot summer day at Norwalk, who else can say that?

As far as issues, **** can happen and it's how things get resolved is what makes the difference IMO. Nothing bothers me more than a dissatisfied customer (fortunately I have not had many). Having an adult conversation about what happened and the best course to correct it can make the difference as this is a small community and paths can likely cross again in the future. A fair amount of time has passed, 2 years ago when Dick was frustrated, he didn't come in here and blast Gaby and it wasn't until "shots were fired" that brought this out.

Theres quite a few stones been thrown Gaby's way too. I have no dog in the fight....but the guys who have been happy with the performance Gaby delivered them, Have a right to be skeptical and point out that they were satisfied customers.

Dick -

I was hesitant to ask this question because I don't want it to appear I am starting sheite. But I really am curious and looking for clarification. When you ran your back to back ehead to CV1 test, were you using the eheads that made 920 hp, 860 hp or a different set?

Mike,
Sorry it has taken sometime to answer your question, but I been busy updating my software and making picture for a thread on another forum.

A thread like this is more of the technical type of discussion that I enjoy.
