Manual Disc/Drum Brakes

At some point I’ll upgrade my front brakes to disc (Scarebird), but I don’t want a booster. I’ve seen other 60s GM and Mopars with manual disc/drum setups. Not exactly sure if a ‘67 dual manual brake master cylinder is a good match for this setup. Could be the same as power just a different leverage point.

Did Pontiac ever offer manual disc/drum on the 67-8 B cars? I’ve never seen one but maybe it’s really rare.

My service manual states that '67 Pontiacs and Tempests had manual drum systems with a 1" bore master cylinder standard.

Many years ago I upgraded my '64 GTO brakes. I also hated the power booster. I switched to 80's B-body 12" discs and tall spindles. Changed the upper arms to tubular to match. I went with a manual master cylinder: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/WIL-260-8555P I love this setup!

I used a 1974-80 GMC C15 manual for my 71 Lemans. The hydraulics are identical.

cost is $50 for a new master and pushrods.

Could this be used to replace OEM drums on ‘68 Lemans while only changing spindles and putting on rotors/calipers (use orig. Dist block and brake lines)?. Do you still sell rotors/calipers that use drum spindle?

Nice to be retired. I was at the site and I thought the previous parts package to convert a ‘65 P8 used GM truck calipers and rotors. Now they’re using Mopar stuff?

Step one is to upgrade to a dual master that looks similar to early GM duals. No booster. I’d do a direct plug into the rear port with a coupler, plug the rear port on the distribution block and leave in place vs trying to fit a ‘67 block on the frame

Second step is to upgrade to front disc. The current Scarebird kit looks fine, o know there’s other options but tracking down old used parts isn’t the way to go.

That is the newest kit - it clears the OEM 14" drum rims.

Ames still sells the older design but you need 15's...

The 74-80 truck master is the best option here. Note the rear rez feeds the front circuit!
