I need a 1972 ONLY Firebird clutch pedal. This ia a unique 1 year only pedal. It has a pad the same size as the brake pedal. It may or may not be stamped 8671. '70 &' 71 will not work, and '73 and up has a small pedal pad, which is not correct. PM me or reply if you have one of these.
Thanks!

I always thought 70-72 were the same. What's different about the 72 pedal, and is the 72 brake pedal a one-year-only item also?

You may be right. It might be the same as a 70-71. I haven't been able to compare a 70-71 pedal to a 72.
I bought a 70-71 pedal from Classic Industries. The way it mounted at the top was completely different from my 72 clutch pedal. So I returned it. (I think it may have been for a 1st gen)
I have a 73 clutch pedal, but the cluctch pad is quite a bit smaller than the brake pedal. I don't want to use that one. If anyone has an original 70-71 clutch pedal, attach a couple pictures of one if you can. If anyone has a 71 assembly manual the has the part number for the clutch pedal, I can se if it is the same 3998671 for the 72.
Thanks for any help on this!

So, I checked the assembly manuals.
1970-1 used clutch pedal assembly 3965693.
1972 used clutch pedal assembly 3998671. Changed from 3988671 on 12/06/71.
Clutch pad though was the same for all three years as 3921648.

1973 lists clutch pedal assembly as 332519. Changed from 332514 on 12/01/72. Which changed from 3998671 on 02/14/72.
Clutch pad lists 332515. But, states it was changed from 3858198 on 02/14/72. So, did the pad change but not recorded in '72?

interesting;
so the “1972 only” pedal assembly #3998671 was only used from December 6, 1971 through to February 14, 1972 - This is a little over two months!(?)
I wonder if the change to the “1972” assembly was something as minute as an assembly with an additional hole for mounting a wire assembly associated with the seat belt warning.
I didn’t speak up earlier, because I was stumped at the assertion of a “1972-only” part;
I figured that maybe I would say something after someone more knowledgeable than me speaks up…
At a glance, the assertion of a “1972 only” part doesn’t quite fit in with the way (that at least I have perceived) GM to do things…
I too had understood that the clutch pedal was the same one used for 1971.
Maybe the part number revision was something as small as a supplier change??
Wasn’t the assembly a combination of parts(?);
The mount was the same for auto or stick cars;
The “assembly” was the combination of the mount, brake pedal, and (in the case of a manual transmission) a clutch pedal.

Mike, thanks for looking that up and posting the part number changes and dates. That answers a lot of questions. Much appreciated!
