I am
Looking for a W72 Carburetor for my 1978 Y88 with the W72 option. My partners dad passed away leaving us this pristine car. He sent the carb off to be rebuilt at a local guy in town, in rural Missouri.. the man claims that he lost it. The car is a 400 4 speed car with 41,000 miles on it. It looks like an automatic and a manual have slightly different carbs.

Nice Y88! There are usually some W72 cores on ebay, saw a couple listed just recently, or you can post a wanted ad on here to see if anyone has one to sell. If you do facebook there are a couple groups you can join that may be of help too, specifically a W72 TA group.

These carbs arent cheap so be prepared to spend a little to get a core then get a good rebuild kit from Cliff R who is a member here & has his own website for parts. Another option if you dont need numbers matching carb is to use a q-jet off a non W72 400 TA that can be built to W72 specs or beyond if your engine has any mods from stock.

I have one with a stripped inlet thread and needs a heli coil insert. It is a 17058263. It is missing a few pieces and needs completely rebuilt/restored. Airhorn, baseplate and body are all there. I would want $150 plus shipping for it.

Lost? or Stolen?

For some reason, I feel that it probably ended up on eBay.

If you do not purchase the one offered in this thread, I would be interested as it would work for one of my projects.

I probably bought the ones at Nationals last year. These are not getting any cheaper or easier to find. Buying the one above for $150 is a very good option. Helicoil in the inlet is annoying but not a deal breaker. Worst case is you have a place holder until a better one comes along.

I’ll prob buy one if it comes along, but I won’t get it rebuilt and recolored. People just don’t want to pay for it.
