Hey Robert, a little more information. The motor seems to be all stock except for the holley 750 dp. He does not wish to change valve springs and rockers. Can he get away with his stock set up with the Isky 351270. He found out he has 3.89 rear gears and of course the 4 spd tranny. He also has the 50 pound intake manifold on the 390. I suggested that he get an aluminum dual plane intake but didn't know what to suggest. Eddy Performer or performer rpm. What kind of rpm shift point should be expected with that cam. He said he used to shift between 4500 and 5000.
I was also thinking about the Comp Cam 268H. What do you think? Its supposed to work with all stock parts. Thanks for your time. unfortunaley, the mechanic that is helping him is a just a parts changer. He was going to throw a big cam in that motor without changing springs rockers etc... James.

Hey Robert thanks for you input. Does these cam sound stock or does it have a little chopiness to it? I'm anxious to see how my friend mustang runs. Thanks, James

    James,

The 390 did not have adjustable rockers, but they are an easy swap. You just need the rockers and pushrods.

One of the best camshafts in a FE motor is the Isky 351270. It features .510"/.510" lift, 216°/216° @ .050" on a 108° LSA. Use Isky 8005-A valve springs and you will love it....

Hey Robert, I have a ford question for you and I know that you have some knowledge of ford motors. A friend of mine is going to get his 68 Ford mustang back on the road. This is his first car and it has a 390 in with 4/speed. The car has been sitting for awhile it does not have that many miles on it since it was rebuilt. he want to put a new cam in it. I have not seen the car but it has a dual plane intake and a 750 dp on it. Did the 390's have an adjustable valvetrain. What is the limit on lift with a non adjustable valvetrain? I've heared that 390's like to bend pushroads. He's been talking to mechanic on picking out a cam but I'm scared the mechanic is just going to throw in a big cam without considering, valve springs and rockers, etc..
